What does it cost in your State?

I think the BRC cost me $225 in 2007 when I took it in Phoenix.

What does it cost in your State?

I live in Southern Indiana and here in Indiana ABATE puts on the safety class.
Basic Class
Cost: $75 (includes $25 refundable registration fee*), $50 ABATE members (Indiana resident rates) Non resident is $185

Experienced rider class
Cost: $50 (includes $25 refundable registration fee**), $25 for ABATE members (Indiana resident rate***) Non resident is $65

Here in Indiana if you take the Basic course and pass they give you a card to take to the BMV when you go to get your license and you don't have to take the State driving test. The state test is done by ABATE and it is the same one that is used in the Basic course.

Compared to other states I guess we are getting a bargain....

New Hampshire rates are:

◦Basic Rider Course - $110.00
◦Intermediate Course - $50.00
◦Experienced Rider Course - $60.00

We do the same thing as Indiana. If you pass the course, we issue you a certificate (card). Take that to the DMV , pay your money and get your licence endorsed. You do not have to take the test at the DMV.
I personally feel all people wanting a motorcycle licence should be required to take the course. Not because I teach it...because I took it after riding for many years...at least 100k miles before I took it and I learned a great deal from it. Every weekend I teach...I also take the course again!! Demos have to be ridden perfect, no excuses.

What does it cost in your State?

Since I am an older generation biker and have been riding since I was 14 or 15 I am not required to take the course. I would have to give up riding if I had to pay those rates.

Alabama, you wouldn't pay $250 to be a better , safer, and more knowledgeble rider? A one time fee?
It is well worth the money at any price. IMO

Ride safe

You should go ahead and take the advanced class it's great.

I have been riding since 1966 never had to take a class. I took the advanced or experienced rider class last year and it was great.
I'll probably take it again in about 3 years as a refresher it was that good.

Gene, I didn't have to take the course, either. I did it because I hadn't ridden in many years and felt I could use a refresher and they administer the written and skills tests so I didn't have to go to the DMV and take care of it.

Even though I was an experienced rider, I still learned from the course. It wasn't a waste of money, by any means.

You don't have to pay everytime you ride Gene. It is a one time deal.
Now if you told me you couldn't take the course because you were on the computer 24/7 then I would believe you. ;)

In North Dakota, it's put on by ABATE. You pay a registration fee at the beginning, but if you pass, you get it back, so it's free. That was the beginner course, I haven't taken the advanced one. The beginner one was a blast, and I'd love to take the advanced one.

PA here. As fish said, it was free for me.

I knew if I waited long enough I'd finally come across a benefit of being a PA resident ;)

Boy, you guys have some cheap rates. These are the rates quoted from the Alberta Safety Council on their programs. These programs are not yet mandatory but probably will be in the near future. However, these programs are well attended and are booked full months in advance.

Gearing Up - Beginner Motorcycle Riders Course (2.5 days, $450)
Don't just get a licence: LEARN TO SURVIVE!
If you want to learn to ride a motorcycle, we will teach you the best methods to control your bike using our nationally accredited and provincially licensed training program. We are Alberta's most established and largest motorcycle training provider. The Alberta Safety Council has trained over 25,000 students in Alberta and the Northwest Territories since 1974 and we train almost 2000 students annually during the motorcycle training season, which runs from April to September

Motorcycle STREET SKILLS Training (2 days, $300) Motorcycle Street Skills Training is your formal initiation into sharing the road with cars and trucks, and managing traffic, traction, and all-weather conditions. You will use your own bike and embark on an enlightening weekend of riding multiple different scenarios!

Advanced Rider - (2 Nights, $199)
The Advanced Rider Course is designed for licensed riders who have ridden more than 1 year or 5000 kilometres. This course allows participants to appreciate the limits of their own motorcycles while improving riding skills. Participants develop skills and strategies to enable them to enjoy motorcycling with confidence for years to come. Training includes classroom and riding sessions in a controlled and safe area.

Here in Florida, the BRC runs between $225 to $250, depending on who is giving the course. It is offered through private businesses, some community colleges and some tech schools. They also accept the HD course. If you pass, you can get your endorsement...if not, you have to take it again for $100.
