front tire wear

I'm approaching 20,000 miles on my Metzeler front tire. It's almost to the wear bars. I only got 10,000 out of my original Bridgestone. This is a substantial difference.

I've got 14.5 k on my stock front Stone. Gonna have to replace it soon though.
I'll probably go with the AVON Cobra.

Only have about 7 k on my rear car tire. No idea when I'll have to replace it! ;)

Just changed out my stock stone front. 18,500 miles. Still had tread but was cupping more than I liked. About 9000 out of each stock rear stone. Went Dunlop this time. See what happens.

I hope to replace my brick with a Dunlop ft, but haven't bothered to research it. I had that all done last year and no dough. Still ain't got that dough, so I will just have to see.

Doc All radial tires have wear bars.. drag a penny in the treads depth with Lincolns head down, and using that as a gauge if you slide the penny, a point will come where lincoln appears to pop up a little bit out of the tread, and you will have found a wear bar.

Probably all tires have wear bars, but I haven't seen many other tires other than radial in a long time.

If you look down into the tread can you see the wear bar?
If so, I would assume that you can run the tire down till the wear bar is even with the tread,Correct?

That's what I'm thinking. The wear bars on the Metzeler look like little oval pieces of rubber down in the groove toward the center of the tire. You can't see them until the tread wears down some.

Thats what I was wondering TC. How low can you take the tread. Im about down to 1mm+ on the rear and 2 mm on the front. Getting close for tires(Avons) but want to get most of these stoners used first. thx guys.

The Avon's have really funky wear bars - they are really hard to see!
