On the road again...
This will be my "official" Southwest Rally thread. I'll be leaving Casa de CJ at 06:00 tomorrow morning, heading for Kanab UT. It's ~395 miles for me and about 9 hours seat time, not counting fuel stops and a break to eat lunch. I'm taking secondary roads to Flagstaff to avoid I-17, so the first few hours of my ride will be at around 55 MPH.
I'll be packing up my laptop tonight, so the next time I post will be from rally central in Kanab.

I'm getting a late start. About to strap on the last bag and ride. Might blow by some of the slow routes. See you there.

I made it safely to Kanab, here's some photos of the days' ride:
This was taken at an overlook of Mormon Lake, about 25 miles south of Flagstaff. As you can see the lake is quite low. Elk are often seen in this large valley, but not today. Here's another angle showing the size of this meadow. The distant mountains at the far right are the San Francisco Peaks, which tower above Flagstaff at their base. This was taken after turning off US89 onto US89A, near Bitter Springs AZ. This is about 20 miles SW of Lake Powell and near the eastern end of the Grand Canyon. From the same place, here is a view to the NW of the Vermillion Cliffs area. The Colorado River runs through the area between where this picture was taken and the cliffs. Tomorrow we're riding to the north rim and through Page, AZ so more photos will be coming.

A picture is worth a thousand words, thanks for sharing the photos.
And what's cooler than posting Harley pics on Vulcan forums 8-) |

Well, the party's over and most of us have said our goodbyes as we will be leaving at varying times tomorrow morning.
Here's what I have to look forward to - the afternoon high tomorrow in the Phoenix area could hit 115°. I can stay at higher altitudes to avoid the heat for only so long, but that last 100 miles from Payson to my house is going to be brutal. This was a great rally, the host motel (Bob-Bon Inn in Kanab UT) was great, and the managers went out of their way to accommodate us. If you're ever in this area of Utah, this is a good place to stay. As always, it was great to see so many old friends and make some new ones. This is what attending a rally is all about. If anyone is considering attending any of our rallies, but isn't sure about it, please attend at least one. It will be an experience you will never forget.
