Stupid close call
Changed the handlebars which required a new brake line. It came today. Installed it and bleeded the brakes. The brakes didn't feel quite right. Probably because of the new postion with the handlebars. I fired the bike up and took off through the neighborhood testing the front brakes at 10-15 mph. Worked well.
I then turned the corner and left the neighborhood. Buzzed up to 40 and grabbed just the front brake hard (remember I'm evaluating the new bars and their position too.) and the front tire locks up. the bike is skidding to the left side and I'm thing no f*cking way, not again. I release the brake, countersteer, drive though a wobble demon and everything is back normal but my underwear. Just stupid, I know better. More lighting on the back end tomorrow and we're ready for another Death Valley overnight trip this weekend. Going to the North end this time.

Probably a good cardiac workout too, eh? Nothing like gettin' your ticker right up there in your throat while you try to ride it out.
I've pulled off more than my fair share of stoppies, but I don't think I wanna even try it on a cruiser. I've always liked to considered those kind of moments "skill building." -Kev |
