What's it worth?

I have a co-worker that has a cyclemate trailer. He says 80's model, so its old. He hasn't used it in years. Asked him if he would be willing to sell it. HE hasn't given me a price yet. What do you think it is worth. I know I can build one for about $400 so I wont pay more than that.

It's hard to say without seeing it. There are a lot of variables that would figure into the value. Wheel size, construction (fiberglass or aluminum), lighting, capacity and overall condition. Yes, you can build a trailer yourself for a few hundred $ and functionally, it will be sufficient but look at some commercially made trailers, and you'll see where the extra money goes. I guess it also depends on whether he has a use for it, or if it's just taking up space in his garage.

I sold one two years ago that I had redone and painted to match a 2003 goldwing for $1500. I gave 600 for it and spent another three for the paint. I hope this helps

I agree with CJ. Depending on condition has a lot to do with price. If it needs tires, bearings seals etc. and a paint job with a bit of bodywork, lights and weatherstripping, I wouldn't be paying to much for it. If its about 25 years old, it probably needs all of the above. IMO I would figure about $50.00 to start, unless its in really good shape and needs almost nothing..

Thanks guys. I know that it is fiberglass and black. He is going to get me some pics. It is in storage now. I was thinking even if it is perfect I may not go higher than $200.

I will update when I know more. Either way I will have one before National next June.

I just bought a 1988 Pod cargo trailer, fiberglass in good condition for $500 and feel I stole it. Hard to find them and worth the money for a quality built used one over what you can build. I have a harbor freight decked out for work and can tell you there is a difference when you pull each. The production trailer pulls sooo much smoother at ANY speed. I'll post pics after my camping trip this weekend. Heading out tommorrow.

When I was looking at trailers I decided to pay a little more and just get a 5X10 utility trailer that I could use for everything. The one I got was used in like new condition. Its the same one they sell at home depot for 1000 dollars with the tilt bed. Remember the nomad is longer than 8 feet, so it may pay to test it out before you buy to make sure it will work

To haul the Nomad pulled in straight you definately need a 10 ft bed. I have a 8 ft trailer and need to pull it in crooked until I tweek the trailer some. But I think we're talking about trailers to pull with the Nomad Wolfie. ;)

I guess maybe I need to clarify. Its a cyclemate trailer to pull behind the Nomad.

I am going to steal it. He wants $100. I figure as long as the shell isn't busted I can fix anything on it and still come out cheaper than even building one.

I guess even a blind squirrel can find a nut.

I would like to find a cyclemate around here for $100. Like you say as long as the shell isn't busted you can rebuild it. They have those good torchen contro axels on them.

$100? Go for it. There's parts on it worth that much.

That sounds fair enough, if it needs tires and a paint job, or other minor parts and repairs, you will still have it on the road at a decent price. Post a couple pics, before and after shots, when you get it home.
