Final Drive Seals & Bearings

If you ever have a leaking final drive leaking gear oil in the drive shaft area its most likely to be the pinion seal. You have to remove the final drive from the bike, undo the lock collar with either the special Kawasaki tool or a brass drift punch as I did to get at the seal. Instructions for this procedure can be found in the shop manual that wil guide you through the process.

There are about three different styles of final drives for the Nomads depending on the year of bike, so its possible yours may be different than what I have listed here. If you find that yours is different let me know the seal p/n's and I will add them here to the list.

On my 2002 1500 the OEM pinion oil seal is a NOK p/n AC2343E, which most dealers will have to order in for you.
I went to my local bearing supplier and crossed it to a Timken
40X52X7 p/n 703019 which cost me about $7.00 and was a stock item. There are other brand seals also available that your supplier should be able to cross over to as well.

OEM pinion bearing is a Koyo 63/28-73B1

If you ever have the gear oil spray out all over the LH side of your tire and wheel it usually the inner ring gear seal, Its a 35X47X7 Timken p/n 100128236.

This seal is a little more involved to replace since its right inside the final drive and you have to totally disassemble the unit to get at it. Not a job for the timid but it can be done depending on how much of a challenge you want to take on.
