Ready to roll.....

Boy, did I have a productive weekend. A friend and I got my air horn, and a 12 volt accessory outlet installed. But the most exciting to me is that we got my Audiovox cruise control installed!! I'm ready to roll down the highway now.

I do have a question for those who have installed one and have made adjustments and such. It will only hold speed between 50 and 55. Is that a vaccuum issue or a throttle cable adjustment issue? Any thoughts?

Kawgirl I have installed several of these on my hot rods, but I have never had this problem so I am just guessing but I would say it is a cable adjustment problem if it has enough vacuum to hold at 55 it should hold at 75. I put the one on my bike with no problem, what did you use for a vacuum cannister? Can you send a picture of the cable mount?

I used the saddlebag guard like Bob did. I'm at work right now, so can't get a pic of my cable mount. We put it right where Bob, Gadget and others have said to put it.

Ready to roll.....

Absolutely no problems here with my Audiovox. I would suggest making sure the cable that connects to the throttle bellcrank is adjusted so it is taut when the throttle is completely closed.

The way the cruise control should work is whatever speed you are at when you engage it, the servo unit senses the RPM of the engine and then adjusts the cable position to maintain that speed. Mine holds my speed from about 30 MPH up to 85 or so. I've never tried it above that speed.

Mine engages when I hit the set button at 70, but the bike slows down then holds at 55. I will check the cable when I get home today.

I know you said you used the rear crash guard as a vacuum reservoir. Did you check for leaks with a vacuum pump after all the fittings were in place?

Edit: Just so y'all know where I'm heading with this. If your system is sucking air (vacuum leak), the diaphragm in the servo unit probably doesn't have enough vacuum to pull the cable any further than what it takes to maintain 55 mph.

The servo transfers vacuum suction into mechanical energy.

Did you plug the drain hole in the bottom of the guard bar? If not, use a 1/4 x 20 tap and then put a stainless steel bolt in the hole using some thread sealant.

Sounds very productive. I want an accessroy outlet too, before i go to the Cascades.

Which accessory outlet did you use? How did you mount it to the bike? Did you plug into the harness in the headlight bucket?

Use the spare wires under the tank to connect to, they are fused at 10 amps and are constant power.
