Fuel Mileage on your 1600
I limited this to the 1600 because other polls have shown that the vast majority of members have the 1600's, and because all 1600's are fuel injected. Comparing Carburated to fuel injected might skew things.
So don't vote your best mileage, nor your worst, vote what you can consistently count on getting if you were planning a trip. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

39 mpg is my average. Interstate usually 35-36mpg. Back country wandering 42mpg. When I ride alone though its like riding double for some of you lightweights out there.

I voted 39-41. Now if the odometer is off like the speedometer then that may not be accurate

Good point TC. The speedometers are usually off by about 10% Assuming the odometer is off the same amount, the we should reduce our mileage estimates by a corresponding 10%. Therefore if you calculated your mileage at 40 mpg, then you are only actually getting 36 mpg.
That's kind of depressing. BTW,I voted 39-41 like you did. Shep |

Riding 55-60 mph I am usually in the 42-44 mpg range. This is with the larger lowers, with the engine guard chaps on in colder weather it drops about 2 mpg at same speeds.

I calculated my speedometer to be off 10%, but my odometer was only off 5%. I don't see how this is possible, but with electronic gages they may be able to manipulate the output. Before I put on a smaller diameter rear tire, my speedometer was off about 7% and my odometer was off < 2%.

Fuel Mileage on your 1600
Looks like the results are falling into two groups, one in the low 30's and one in the high 30's. I should have asked people to post if they've done any mods, and what their mileage is to try to see why the two distinct groupings.
If you don't mind, put what your mileage is in a post, and if you've done anything to your bike. I know when I put pipes and the Thunder air intake on my 1500, I got worse mileage. |

Fuel Mileage on your 1600
I'm in the 42-44 category. I mostly ride 55 mph straight back roads with few hills and very few stops. (Not my preference, it's just the way Michigan is.) No modifications. When I have been in states with 75 mph highways my mpg have dropped to the 35-38 range.

Most of the time I run 40-42 mpg. No mods. Our roads are straight and speed limits of 65. Generally run 73 mph indicated.

Highway I run 39--40 mpg with no mods, in town I get around 36--38. I am a little heavier than most, with loaded bags and gear it probably totals around 350 lbs. I am pretty conservative with the throttle and usually keep it between 65 to 72 indicated. The bike loves 67. Still a new bike with only 2300 miles on it.

Box stock, I figure 35 mpg for planning. My odometer is very accurate, I have compared it several times with mapquest on trips. My speedo is 10% off.

Just wondering with a 5.3 gallon fuel tank what are most of you averageing for miles before you have the fuel light come on? I have a fairing and V&H pipes with a PCIII dyno tuned and engine guards with larger lowers with a trunk. I can go to about 160 depending on what time of year summer better colder weather lower. I ride mostly in NH and average speed is around 55 with 2 up.
