I'm putting on the progressive 412 HD rear shocks before spring comes back to us . The stock length for our nomads are 12.5" . I'm staying with the height because I do a lot of two up riding . All the research I've done tells me to not go any lower than 11" if you plan on riding solo . Stick with the HD progressive shocks if that's the route you decide to take .

Lots of great info on there site and the tech support is quite helpful .

Good luck with your upgrades and I'm sure you will be receiving a lot of useful tips here .

Yes , they are sold by the pair . The price on these are quite high but reading the reviews I'm convinced they're worth every penny .
I just put progressive springs on the front end and I must say they were far beyond what I expected . Very smooth and handling was excellent .
There are a lot of members on here that went with progressive both front and back . I'm sure you'll receive there in put in time .

Good luck !!

Well, I went from the std. nomad air shocks to the 412HDs for solo riding, then would switch back to the airshocks when pulling my trailer....(15 minute switchout)....hooking up to my onboard air compressor setup.
Well, a few months ago, air shock bladder blew out, and my compressor showing signs of wear. I have RA, which makes swinging my leg over a big ole heap on the rear of my bike a chore.
So, I went with a rear air system that I let all the way down, makes mounting the bike alot easier, plus gets tons of looks and enquiries. Lowers it enough that I'm looking for a shorter kick stand.
Anyway, the rear fender almost sits down all the way on the tire.
Anyway, the stance with 412HDs is great, I just needed something lower, then once I'm aboard, I air till I'm to 21.5 psi for rough roads, 18.5 psi for smooth, I'm at my solo ride height.

I've purchased two sets of Progressive shocks, 440HDs for my Rocket 3 and 412s for my Super Glide. The prices on the Progressive web site are MSRP but they can be had at significantly lower prices. I purchased both my sets on ebay. I had a finish problem with the chrome 440s so sent them back to Progressive. I received a call from them asking if I'd like black powder coated shocks instead, said yes, and received two brand new shocks.

Just keep your ebay receipt.

And a set of Heavy Duty

If you go with 11" shocks you WILL be dragging your backside and it will ride like something you would find in a litter box.

Been there done that.

I installed Progressive 444HD on my 2002 Nomad, winter before last, and progressive springs in the forks last spring... Never looked back. I went with the stock length, bacause already bottom out at times. Personally, I wouldn't lower the rear of your bike. Vulcan are already low enough to the ground to start with... Just my opinion. As fare as installing the progressive shocks, that you won't regret.

Sounds like you are going to keep yourself busy for the winter. Good luck with your projects. Might have interest on one of your left over seats. Let me know
