NCR Rally idea...

For those attending the North Central Region Rally starting with the Meet-n-Greet at 6pm June 7th...

Since we didn't include the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa as part of the route-planning... I have been giving serious thought of heading there on June 7th to tour the museum.

I am off work the 7th, so I thought I would start early and ride over to Anamosa. I could tour the museum and have plenty of time to get back to Savanna by 6pm. Also, J&P Cycle is located in Anamosa for those interested in stopping there to look through their show room of after-market parts and accessories.

Anyone else interested in meeting-up in Anamosa, or somewhere prior to ride over?

Hey Greg, I would love to join you but it is a full days ride for me to get to Savanna. I can only assume that you mean June 7?

Ah... "oldtimers" disease kicking-in... I meant June 7th. I corrected the post.

How far is it from your place to Anamosa?

It is over 300 miles on the superslab and I would hate to have to ride that. Denny, Sally and I are hooking up on the morning of the 7th and taking the scenic route to Savanna, hoping to pull into town around 5:00 p.m.

No problem, I understand. I live only a few hours from Savanna, so I would have time to ride to Anamosa, and still make it back to Savanna in time.

When you guys come down to Savanna... after going through Galena most would suggest you take Blackjack Road out of Galena. I like that road and it is a nice twisted-road; but over the last several years its condition has degraded quite a bit.

A nice road to take instead of Blackjack (if you still have the energy by then), or RT-20 to RT-87 or 84 (can't remember which) to Savanna... I would continue on RT-20 out of Galena to Elizabeth, IL. Go thru Elizabeth on RT-20 and about a mile or two after Elizabeth to the right is Derinda Road. Derinda Road eventually turns into Scenic Ridge Road (you won't know when it happens).

Derinda Road takes you all the way to Savanna. It is definitely one of my "all-time" favorite roads in that entire area. It is in excellent condition and sweeps back and forth, up and down through the bluffs and valleys along the Mississippi to Savanna. You would be missing one of best roads you'll ever want to ride if you don't go on it. And the views are really great also. It also isn't too twisty to make it a lot of work either.

It would remind you somewhat of the road we took together from Balltown, IA heading north when Stretch, you, Dave and I went on the scouting trip -- where we took out ahead of Dave trying to race each other.

Anyway... give it consideration. You won't regret it.

Thanks for the tip Greg, I will take your word for it on the quality of the ride on Derinda Road. You always find the BEST roads I will PM Denny & Sally and see if they want to come down a day early so we can all make the trip to Anamosa with you. I'll keep you informed.

The museum should be pretty cool to see though...

they had a display at the bike show maybe thirty bikes some really old and cool machines so i believe the museum should be worth the trip if im not working im going to try and make that run with you greg it should be fun

I added June 6 to my reservations in Savanna. I hope that Denny & Sally can do the same.

I will be making my reservations for the rally tonight so I'm thinking I can add a day also. I always make a trek out to JP Cycles every year so this could be that time. I have been to the museum before but that was when it was the downtown location, they have expanded it greatly. glwislon depending on the route you take and when you leave maybe we could hook up somewhere, I would be riding across just south of you. I wanted to get to know people from the site and this seems like a great way to do that.

My wife and I are thinking about joining you guys starting with Anamosa on the 7th.This might be some thing we might be able to do but hadn't thought of it hard since a group of us had plans a year a go to go west the 4th of July week.I know super 8 is the place for the first night but how about the rest of the weekend?
