Pitch's Nomad
My 2011 Nomad
The bride said she needed more comfort than my 1600 offered & I should get another bike! Who am I to argue that?!!! I really wasn't a fairing or trunk guy but she likes the comfort the trunk offers. Nomad w/a trunk for her & no fairing for me. The best of both worlds! The trunk space really is handy & it's beginning to grow on me. Never thought much about apes until I sat on a Big Bear chopper w/high bars. I put em on my 1600 I had & now on my Nomad. Absolute best comfort mod I've made! Apes, highway pegs & backrest......10-12 hrs, no prob!

What size apes are they? Did you have to swap out your cables?

It is the Kaw trunk kit. Came w/all the pieces & parts including the wiring harness & was very well packaged. A little $$ but my dealer gave me a pretty good discount. I'm pleased.
The bars are Wild 1 Chubby 14" 5072B. They put my hands just slightly lower than the sholders. I went 6" over on throttle cables, brake & clutch lines. Throttle cables would've been fine w/4" over. The wires on the right handlebar were long enough but I had to extend the wires on the left side. The biggest problem I encountered was actually mounting the bars. I had the same bars on my 1600 Classic & they worked fine in the OEM risers, si I just ordered the same bars cuz I really liked the way they fit me. BUT, when the bars/cables/grips came, I found out for some weird reason Kaw decided to widen the riser spread about 5/16" on the 1700s. This made the 1" mounting section of the bars too narrow. I then ordered a set of 1 1/4" risers & made some split sleeves out of 1 1/4" tubing. This worked very well & I'm really happy with the way they turned out! Got all parts at Phat Performance Parts.

Pitch, that looks great. I installed 16" apes on my 1600 nomad earlier this year. I then ended up putting a 3" spacer under the stock risers also. This puts my hands right about shoulder level for me.

Thanks taz! You must be a big tall feller! Hey, I just rode thru your neighborhood a couple weeks ago! Rode my scoot down to visit my daughter in Clearwater. It was a great ride!

Glad you had a good trip, hopefully we had good weather for you while you were here. It's been pretty good but we have had a few rainy days in the last few weeks.

Very nice. I really like the way the Voyager trunk looks on the back. Would your dealer be interested in selling another trunk at a "pretty good discount?"
