To buy OR Not to buy.... Extended warranty?

OK, That is the question!

My warranty on my Voyager expires in September. Got a letter from Kaw today offering an extension of the warranty.

2011 Voyager 1700 A.B.S.
with 54,000 miles.

1 year = $495
2 year = $605
3 year = $682

All prices plus tax.
What do you all think? Did anyone run into heavy expenses? I just had the ECM replaced under the warranty last month so that has me thinking??

all input is welcome!!

Thanks,
Tommy

The extended warranties are priced so that Kawasaki comes out ahead over the long haul. If you buy it, do so with the attitude that you're buying peace of mind, not with an eye towards actual savings. That's what I did.

Also, shop around for cost. My local dealer priced my warranty well below MSRP.

Really? Below msrp? I worked with Dodge for 33 years and in the state of Florida where I live the dealers were restricted to sell the factory extended warranty AT msrp, even the employees got no discount. I'll have to shoot over and check it out, Thanks

I would rule out number 2 and go with number 3. I like having the bike taken care of and really don't want to wrench on it myself unless it's something that I'm adding on. I'd rather spend my time riding than fixing.

You can buy a 3 year warranty on eBay for under $400 like I did :) No need to go through your local dealer. Go on web where dealers across the country compete. MaKaw send me confirmation within a week from purchasing it on eBay from a dealer across the country.

Here's a thread with some dealers that provided good prices in the past. Good luck http://www.vulcanbagger.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=30232

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of unforeseen breakdowns upon a desolate highways yet traveled,
or to take an extended warranty against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them?

The joys of living in Florida! Florida law prohibits the purchase of insurance, including extended warranties from non-Florida licensed sellers. Florida also states the it can not be sold below MSRP. If you still have doubts do a search on ebay for "Kawasaki extended warranty" every add will (or should) include a comment about not being available to Florida residents.

On the up side we have...

My basic warranty just expired and I picked up the extended from a seller on eBay . . .for way under MSRP.

Check me on this, but all I had to do was give the guy my VIN and address to send the paperwork to . . . He pulled up my history and saw that I had my tank replaced under the basic warranty . . . You Flori-duh guys got any relatives who don't live in Flori-duh that can receive the paperwork for you? My paperwork arrived in a week or so . . . The warranty is valid anywhere - even the land of Mickey and gators . . . and babes . . .

I bought 4 years for my Nomad for $355 from Freemont in CO, I think it was...Never needed it. For my beemer, it's 3rd party and I'd pay $600 a year added on, so $1800 for 3 years. That's nuts. The Kawasaki plan is worth it if you buy from eBay, but at those prices it's a toss up. If you do get it, get three years.

I almost Never buy extended warranties for anything. However, on my 03 Nomad that I picked up used, I purchased a 3year warranty. I had a problem with no start, and one month later with the motor pulled apart twice, the bill to insurance company 3k, my out of pocket $88. If not for the insurance, it would be sitting in my garage in Michigan, not with me in NC riding with the wife. These are great machines, but as you know, much more expensive than cars to get work done. By the way, covered with aftermarket pipes, PC111, and K&N. Paid up like a champ.
Best of luck, hard decision, in my case worth every penny, wether it was a deal or not.

Depends on how much it is. A repair can be $2000 or I can take a bet with that money with a warranty. The other bet is to leave the money in the coffers and see what happens.
