2010 Regional Rally Poll

Okay guys....since our Mt. St. Helens ride got washed out... :'(...I got nothing better to do than start a little poll.

It has been suggested that for our 2010 Northwest Regional Rally, instead of a traditional base camp rally, we think about doing a continous road trip rally.

BASE CAMP
A base camp rally would entail choosing a single location to gather, then ride the area for a couple days, returning each night to our base hotel.

ROAD TRIP
A road trip rally would entail picking a location to meet, then riding a specified route for several days staying at various hotels along the way, disbanding at some point to return home.

Should we choose a base camp, we can do another poll to finalize a location, figure out dates and duration of the event.

Should we choose a road trip, my guess is that it would require a longer time commitment, as it will take 1-2 days to ride to a meeting place and 1-3 to ride home, depending on where we start and end up. I imagine a full week (weekend to weekend) would be best suited for this idea.

If we choose the road trip, we can do another poll to determine how many miles per day would be most comfortable, pick some dates and toss around ideas for a meeting place and ride route.

Once we have an idea which type of rally the group prefers, we can start tossing ideas around more seriously. So....place your vote, then add a few words to share your thoughts (so I at least know you voted).... :).

We will be welcoming with open arms our Western Canadian brothers to join us once we have a firm plan for our 2010 Regional Rally, but for the purpose of deciding that plan, I would ask that only members of the KawaNOW Northwest Group take part in the actual voting.

Cheers....Kris

2010 Regional Rally Poll

I voted base camp only because it gives me flexibilty with work schedule. In case I can only break away for 2-3 days. I can (and maybe others too?) catch whatever days I can. As Kris stated the road trip is a longer commitment in time.

Another nice thing about a base camp is you can usually arrange for a watering hole within walking distance of your hotel every night. With a base camp you don't have to load up the bike with all your gear everyday.....but of course that isn't an issue for the guy that has the big new trunk...not mentioning names but here is a hint......he lives in Everett, buys every mod known to man, invented the V&H Ultimate baffle, and is a government official....probably on the take based on his purchases in the worst economy since the Depression.

Oh by the way Charlie...we won't be recommending you as director of Homeland Security anytime soon...do you really think your vote was a secret looking at the score?

Either way I will join in somehow!

Ahem....for the record....I did NOT invent the "Ultimate V&H Baffle". The distinction I believe goes to Dkdixie and VulcanE...!! As for the rest....I will excercise my constitutional right to "plead the fifth".... ;)!

As for Charlie, given there were only two votes at the time of his post (his being the second), his effort to be covert did seem a little weak... !

It turned out really nice up here today (Sunday)....and I just returned from a 200 miler. I first stopped in Arlington at a favorite place of mine that serves the BEST Swedish Pancakes on the planet...then rode up to Bellingham, back through the Skagit and Sauk River valleys to Darrington....then along the Stillaguamish River valley back to Arlington and home. Very nice solo ride... .

That's a good point about the watering hole and loading up and flexibility. Being a basically lazy kinda guy hanging out works for me too.

2010 Regional Rally Poll

After reading Gregs post....it makes sense that more people could probably participate if we keep it more static...not to mention I could drink more tequila ;). Therefore....I might have to change my vote....but I'll let you math wizards figure out if I really did or not.... !

OK, looks like a base camp choice, so far. Time to start a new poll. Where to hold it...Personally, I still like Kalispell

2010 Regional Rally Poll

Okay....while I'm not sure everyone has chimed in on this....it's pretty clear how this is going, so John is right....probably time to start a new poll. I will get to working on that after I review all the potential sites that were tossed about in an earlier thread that best meet the criteria (somewhat centrally located to all).

Once we have a site determined....we can work on potential dates and choice of lodging. Hopefully by the time it comes around we will have many new members here in our NW group.

I think I am a solid 0 for 5 so far with Nomad riders I have recruited to join us....so I'm not batting too well. I did make up some KawaNOW business cards with my name and contact info printed on the back. It was really easy using MS Publisher (business card template). I printed the main side, then just turned over the card-stock paper in the printer....

If we go "central" for everyone I think we end up close to Kalispell anyhow....considering Landman (Wy) and Idaho.

Personally I don't mind where we have it because the ride getting there will be a blast and the region is not all that big.

Anyone know the Kalispell area very well?

I have four places in mind that I have been researching that are all centrally located. All of them offer great day rides and it will be a very difficult choice actually. I would be happy with any of them as I'm sure we all would. I may refrain from the early voting to give the group their own say. I will post a new poll in the next few days citing the virtues of each and we'll see what everyone thinks... .
