Routes to Rally

Just thought I would start this up (thanks to CJ for a nudge) ;). If you already know of your route or are in the planning of getting your route determined to Cortez, here is the place to put your route up. You may find someone that is willing to join you along the way.

Routes to Rally

I will get this started. My route will depend upon work. If I don't have a meeting along the way.

Take Highway 36 west to Highway 71 and then south to Rocky Ford. I will then take CO-10 to Walsenburg and then 160 all the way into Cortez. My plans are to leave on June 10th and be there for some work and another rally.

If I have a meeting to travel to before.

I will be taking I 76 into Denver and the I-70 to Frisco. I will then take Hwy 24 down to Leadville and then connect onto 285 til Center and then pop over to Del Norte and then 160 all the way to Cortez.

The date on this is still up in the air but it will probably be on June 9 or 10.

Routes to Rally

Myself, a friend and Landman are going to meet at the Morrison Conoco(W-470 and Morrison Rd.) at 7:30AM on the 13th. We will take US285 west and south to Monte Vista then US160 west to Cortez. Mapquest says this is the fastest way for us, also scenic ( just under 400 mi. and 8 hours). ALL ARE INVITED TO JOIN US AND RIDE ALONG.

Kris will be meeting me in Orem on Sunday at 9am. We will be riding down I-15 to HWY 6 through Spanish Fork canyon and Price until it meets with I-70. We will follow I-70 for about 20 miles and get off on HWY 191 through Arches, Moab until Monticello where well will get on HWY 491 and take that to Cortez.

It will be a little over 300 miles for us through some amazing scenery.

I am leaving Omaha, NE and working my way south and west across KS and into E. CO. Will pick up CO 160 and take it to Cortez. Going to take my time and enjoy the ride. Plan on camping at Great Sand Dune NP Sat (which will be day 2 of my ride) and then on to Cortez Sunday.

Routes to Rally

I plan to leave early on Sunday the 13th, taking the 101 freeway to the Beeline Hwy (AZ 87), then AZ 87 to Payson, where I'll catch AZ 260 E to Heber, then AZ 277 to Holbrook, then I-40 to Gallup, NM. In Gallup, I'll head N on 491 through Shiprock all the way to Cortez.

Approx 415 miles.

Haven't decided on the return route yet.

CJ, what time in the morning are you thinking about leaving? Famous last words it appears I might be able to go. I came home that way last year and it will be 55 mph between Gallup toward Shiprock and Cortez.

Since it's a Sunday, traffic isn't a concern. I figure 06:00 AM, be in Cortez around 03:00 - 03:30 PM. I plan to tear it up.

Probably taking the same route as CJ on the 13th, most likely I will be an hour or so behind him. Chandler, Payson, Holbrook, Gallup, Cortez. I am debating about coming back through Flagstaff, Payson, to Chandler, nothing firm on the return run.
