dyno is done
well, just got my 08 back from the dyno. Just for a refresher, my bike is new, I got chucksters plate with the open k&n, power commander, ultimate baffles with the v&h pipes. he said the front cylinder was running way lean, rear was closer. said they jumped around a lot in the mid ranges. very lean on the top end. It took them 6 hours to tune. We talked about the baffles and he thinks they came out pretty good. 92 ish lbs of torque, so good just vulcanE and dkdixie! he said my mpg's should increase a bit as well since the mid range was running rich. I didn't get a chance to run it much tonight, only 15 miles home, but I tell ya, when I get on it, it sounds MUCH better, smoother and she goes! Yea, it was kinda pricey to get done, but... at least I know that it's at it's best that it can be, or the best that the dyno guy can do. I'll see what I get for MPG's here soon.

yea, hopefully get to get out and burn a few tanks this weekend. have blessing of the bikes next sunday, so that will be a long ride. I'll keep you posted. I dont suspect HUGE jumps, but I'd be happy with high 30's. anything that starts with a 4 would give me wood!

Is it possible to calibrate the fuel flow to each cylinder separately, I thought that whatever changes are made effect both cylinders.

I had the same question going through my head too Steve. Are you running a commander? Is it different with the two different FI modules? I mean I know that you can only richen with the TFI and you can do both richen and lean out with the commander.I have the Doebeck Inclusion where as borto has the power commander. Were the two cyl. different because you had tinkered with the settings before the dyno borto.
Anyone out there, know if with TFI you are doing both cyl? I'm concerned I might be too lean. Like I explained to someone else out there. The spark plug check isn't a real true test to see if it's either rich or lean. Richening a bike or leaning the settings, and filling up with fuel and riding for two hours, and then rechecking the plugs isn't going to give you much to go on. Unless you change out the plugs with a new set every time you make an adjustment. So unless you dyno can we be running a chance that we are running too lean? I followed the instructions that Doebeck sets out and "fine tuned" the TFI but could I be running too lean still? Or are there more variables or a lack of knowledge I'm unaware of?

Rickyboy:
The factory setting on FI bikes always sets the rear jug slightly richer because it is blocked from air by the front jug. Even in water cooled motorcycles this is true. The front cylinder always runs cooler so MaKaw sets the front up to run leaner because of this. The TFI does not adjust separately. Whatever the ECM is set up to do, the TFI just "enhances" the time that signal is sent. My understanding is that the Power Commander can be adjusted separately as well as remove fuel. If I had a VMAX with a drag slick and headers at the track I'd prefer the PC otherwise the Cobra or TFI is more than enough for a two cylinder cruiser. Some expensive PC's even can be equipped with a "piggyback" ignition timing manipulation module. The timing is mild enough on the Nomad as reducing it would cause a potential loss of power. We don't have that to spare ;)

well, i don't know the technical details, but he adjusted both cylinders, at each rpm range in every gear. I'm at the shop now getting my lights wired up.. they said the 08 had 65 or 68 HP and they measure at the CRANK.. he said the new 09's have 84 measured off the wheel. So this mod really does add some spunk!

That's a big difference in HP considering they measured 68 at the crank and 84 at the rear wheel. The dealer told me when I purchased my bike that the shaft robs approximately 8 - 10% of the available HP. The 1700 is belt driven so that could account for 6 - 8 added HP besides the added HP and torque derived from the 148 cc's. On a dyno isn't the HP measured at the rear wheel?

Rickyboy; I am running a Power Commander on my bike but It came on my bike when I bought it. Therefore Ive never adjusted it from the way I got it. But would like to hook it up to a computer to see whats in it. I'll have to get a laptop someday to do that .
On a dyno HP is measured at the wheel, maybe he was using Kawasaki's specs for the 08's

......{"Whatever the ECM is set up to do, the TFI just "enhances" the time that signal is sent."} that the two cyl. can't run leaner than what they already did from factory?? Even though I have a double Caddman set up? Does the ECM automatically compensate for the extra air going in? And the only thing we are doing is adjusting WHEN the fuel gets dumped in? If that's true I never did understand then.

YES Ricky, the TFI cannot make your bike leaner. it can only make it richer. if you think your too lean still, richen it up some till you see signs of too rich then back down some.
