Hello fellow bikers.... from a new Oregon member.
I have been reading the forum for a couple of months and thought it was time to get aquainted. I have returned to motorcycling after a 35+ year absence. In my teens and twenties, I did a fair amount of trail and off road riding but never any street riding. Approximately 3 months ago, I came across an opportunity to buy a 2005 1600 Nomad (Blue and Silver) from the original owner that had only 72.1 miles on it. The gentleman who bought the bike new was 70 years old at the time of purchase and decided it was too heavy for him to handle. After buying the bike and trailering it home, it sat for almost a month while I waited to take a motorcycle safety training class taught by team Oregon. Long story short, I have now been riding it for nearly two months and have 991 miles on it. To date I have replaced the stock exhause with Vance and Hines dual baggers, added integrated ring style LED brakelight/turnsignals inside the original real housings and made new lowers for the front of the bike to address the helmet buffeting. In the first 991 miles the bike has really changed and has had no problems. I also cannot tell each of you how much I have enjoyed learning to ride on the street and realizing now how much this big bike no longer feels big to me. It is truely a comfortable, smooth riding machine. Very happy I made the descision to get back into bike riding! I have enjoyed reading the information from all on this forum and hope to get to know some of the members over time.

Hello fellow bikers.... from a new Oregon member.
Welcome! I agree with you about the big bike statement. Many of my friends ride smaller bikes and think mine is a MONSTER.... and don't believe me it is not bad at all to handle! Handles quite well!

Hello fellow bikers.... from a new Oregon member.
Where abouts in Oregon dm? Join in the Western Rally thread!.....
Nico, I live in a small town named Canby which is located about 15 miles South of Portland. I did take a quick look at your Western Rally thread as suggested. The idea of a annual rally looks fun and I will look at it in more detail as time permits. If there is other forum members who live up near the Portland area, hopefully they will weighin as I would like to meet them and see who they are.... :) |

Hello fellow bikers.... from a new Oregon member.
Welcome from Pa.
In regards to the weight, it sure rides smooth. The most intimidating time is when you lift it from the sidestand for the first time of the day. A friend was over to see my new Nomad the other night and said he would probably drop it. I told him not to get on it because you have to be fully prepared both mentally and physically when you do lift it.
