Engine rev's up like the throttle is stuck open.
I know this was brought up in the past, but I never saw if it was resolved.
I have a 2011 vaquero. Almost 45,000 miles on it. It is starting to rev up on its own 1200-2100 rpm and there is nothing I can do to get it to calm down. Does it more after starting up cold. If I ride to another location, 5 minutes or 45 minutes it still does it. If I then sit and let it rev if will eventually drop to an idle. some times 2 minutes, sometimes 5 minutes. This is starting to get old. I was wondering if any body who has had this problem figured it out? I have Ivan's re-flash, but it was doing this before, just not so often.

My 2012 takes about 2 minutes to drop down to idle from a cold start.
If the motor cools down a bit from a stopover, it will go through the process again, only shorter duration. If I don't let it finish the process it only re-starts it again next time at idle. All normal in my book. I take it, you let it finish the warm up process ? Other than that it may be a vacuum leak somewhere. Hope you get it sorted mate. Cheers, Pete.

Clean the throttle body really good. See if that solves it.

ECU is probably reading temp., fuel/air ratio, throttle position sensing, air flow....and adjusting accordingly....
Some cars do that to put a little heat into the engine.... Turn your key on, twist throttle to WOT, turn key off. Clean throttle body really well. I use a gun cleaning kit with one of the small cleaning brushes. Put it all back together....go take a long ride.... Maybe she's just Jones'in for some lovin' and wrenchin'....

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Check your vacuum hoses.

Push the right toggle to mode A and hold it for a few seconds. I learned this from the owner's manual. It took care of the problem on mine.

Sounds like a vacuum leak, could be the dirty throttle body....so....check it over with carb cleaner....when you hit the leak, she'll take off and rev to 3600/3800....
But these bikes will idle high to help get warm, then idle down....just like a later model car with EFI....

So I cleaned the throttle body with sea foam. The problem went away for a few weeks.
Thought I was golden. This was easy. Then it came back, but not as often or as bad. What I noticed it would happen after the engine was up to operating temp. When I would make a short time stop, say to go into a store, and the engine had not cooled completely down, it would start this problem till it warm back up. Could take 4 or 5 minutes. Most of the time sooner. I would let it sit and idle at the higher rpm till is suddenly dropped to normal. There were a few times it would step down to idle fairly rapidly. And a few times it would idle so slow I thought it was going to die. Bliping the throttle would bring it to normal idle. I don't believe the ecu was controlling the throttle because the the rps's were not the same. There were times it would be 1200 rpm, and times close to 2000 rpm. But I could be wrong. My temp gauge indicates the engine is still quite warm, so I can't believe the ECU is summoning the engine to rev up. My thought at this time is there is a mechanical issue with the throttle shaft. Like it is sticking till the heat makes it's way back into the throttle body area and clearance issues around the shaft change. Any thoughts?

Check on the cable side of the throttlebody, clean things really well. There might be a piece that needs shimming or tightening on the cable holders....

Just spit balling here, but is there any chance your cable may have frayed inside of the casing? Any kinks or such? Somewhere? Binding that caused friction?
What version of the Ivan reflash do you have?? Last one I know of was put out sometime in April/ May of 1017 ?? Maybe an Upgrade? to c_59 , I think that was the last # of the codes he puts on the units. Some One can correct me, Please if I am Miss remembering .

Just my logic here but if it were a cable wouldn't be more of a problem all the time? This only happens after a little bit of cool down time. And the rpm's are never the same.
Which leads me to think it's a sticking shaft. The time it takes the engine to return to idle is different each time and it does it on its own, I don't do any thing to get it to return to low idle.

I did find while on trip it was running hot, My fan fuse was blown. Once replaced seemed the surging kind of went away. I put about 1000 mile on it since and fuse hasn't blown again. It may have been blown when I got it. Only had for 1 year and that was it first time I rode it in 85 plus weather.
