Big wiring project UPDATED w/pics
Tomorrow I am getting an early start on my latest project, I will be installing my dual accessory handlebar switch, an additional fuse block up front in the cavity between the forks and behind the headlamp, and rewiring all my accessories. I'll try to remember to take some pictures on my progress, sometimes I get busy and forget to document my work.

Good luck CJ, take your time, heat up the soldering iron, and don't forget to put the shrink wrap on before you connect the wires.
AND, have a 12 pack for when you get done. ;)

Big wiring project UPDATED w/pics
It took me two days to do it, but it's all finished up and looks and works great. Here's what I did...
My poor nekkid Nomad. This is how it looked all stripped down: I built two brackets that I mounted to the bolts that hold the headlight mount on the bottom of the triple tree. The one on the RH side (if you are on the bike) is the accessory fuse block, the one on the LH side is for the relays I installed: I was never happy with the accessory fuse block I installed behind the LH side cover several months ago. I took this opportunity to engineer a solid bracket for it and clean up the wiring. Here is the original accessory fuse block, remounted: Here is the new accessory block with the cover on it: And here's what compelled me to go through this exercise. The dual accessory handlebar switch I bought to control both sets of driving lights. Since this switch will only control the relays and not the drive the lights directly, I decided to add the fork-mounted fuse block and the relays. This turned out to be more involved than I originally thought. I had to figure out where to locate and fabricate the brackets, I had to undo my previous wiring job (this one is much cleaner) and I had to clean and polish parts as I reinstalled them. I'm happy with it, the switch looks really nice and will be more convenient than reaching the old switches which were located in the left neck cover. The new switch also allows me to flash my lights, for passing and attention-getting purposes.

Real nice job!
Never mind the know-how, I wouldn't have the guts or the patience to take that on. Especially, when you find out its more involved than what you first thought. Good work! |
