Has anyone heard of this GPS?

Hey folks,

have any of you heard of the Magellan Maestro 3210 GPS Navigation System. It's on sale for half price (selling for $149) but all I ever hear of is Garmin and Tom Tom. Curious if it's one of those "you get what you pay for" deals or if it is a good find.

Joe

I seem to have heard they're not as preferred as Garmin or Tom Tom.... Something about maps not being as good.... You can get the Garmin Nuvi for the same price. Problem with that price range. Only one way-point can be used, and they're not waterproof. OK to keep in your pocket and look at when needed though

I have the Garmin Zumo 550. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Joe,
I have the Magellan Crossover 2500T . I found it does the job just fine. It isn't water proof But it is very water resistant I think it rates 7 out of 10 in that area. It comes with a rubber cover that goes around it. I found that with it behind the windscreen in the rain it didn't get much water hitting it. Plus it comes off easy if you use a handle bar mount.
The 2500T is also good if your into or wanted to try "geotracking". It's also good for marine use. Fills the bill on all three of these uses.

Good luck

I have the Nuvi 250w and it works great. Has plenty of points of interest (fuel, lodging, food, etc.), and is readable in daylight. Not weatherproof/waterproof, but then again, not really necessary here.

I have a Magellan....It's a "Roadmate 2000" though. I have had it for about 3 years and have had no problems with it. In my Opinion.....Magellan uses the same source for maps that others do...I think.

I did hear [ after I bought the Magellan ] that TomTom and Garmin has a deal with Google maps. For a one time fee you can download their maps and upload them to your GPS.

I had a cheap Magellan GPS that I got for my truck (can't remember the model # but cost $149). I put it on the motorcyle. It worked ok, but you couldn't see the screen in direct sunlight. The first major rain storm shorted it out, and it has not worked since.

Magellan has been around a long time--started GPS with surveying equipment. I have a Magellan 4040 ($499 retail) and both my kids have 4000 ($399 retail) (for Christmas). The 4000's don't have maps of Canada. Magellan has been around a long time. I got mine for $117 with an 18 month warranty and my kids for $118 with a 39 month warranty. They are refurbished but that has never bothered me as long as there is a decent warranty. They have the ability to attach to a RAM Mount systems very easily.

I'm running a Zumo 550. Have not had a single problem...and I can read it in sunlight. Just make sure that whatever you get doesn't have a hard drive. Even our smooth running Nomads vibrate.

MAGELLAN is a well made unit..A but has a hand Held,,not sure the model.... BUT I prefer GARMIN ,1: GREAT TECH Support.. GREAT customer service,, I had a 2610 model. allmost 2 month out of warenty,, It started going fluky.Garmin sent me another unit (Refurb) FREE,, That lasted 3 day died, sent another one,DOA. THEY SAID sorry for all the problems and asked if it was OK to upgrade to the Better Model .FREE It had BETTER features,BETTER model. 100% water proof which to me is a MUST have...SO IMO GARMIN,Tom Tom Magellan are all good choices.........
