Dynabead tire wear myth

Sometime ago there was a post where somebody was questioning the use of Dynabeads because of excessive wear on the inside of a tire.

The picture below shows recently removed SP5000 195/60R car tire with the Dynabeads still in it.
While you can see some "tire dust," IMO the inside of the tire shows no wear from the beads. In fact, the beads looked like they polished the inside of the tire.

This is good to know! I imagine, those who were complaining, were worried about the small black specks of rubber mixed with the beads. I too don't think that the small amount of rubber that does come off is anything to be worried about.

Why did you take of your tire? Is it time to replace you sp5000? If so, I'd be interested in hearing how many miles you got out of it.

Just under 16,000 miles. As I've mentioned in other posts, I stayed with to high tire pressure too long. Tire was wearing in the center. Plenty of tread left on the outside.

The Dunlop is being replaced with a Vredestein Quatrac 2 in same 195/60R size. Tire is mounted, ready to go, but when pulled final drive the inner seal, as well as the shaft seal were leaking.....so, its sitting at the local dealer waiting for parts to come in. I'm having all the drive seals replaced under warranty.

Here's a pic of the old and the new tires.

You're dunlop looks like it still has lots of tread. Maybe the picture is miss leading.

Was the uneven tread giving you problems?

Picture is miss leading. Less than 1MM left to wear bar. 3mm of tread left on the outside.

Actually the tire wasn't giving me any problems. Its been like this for last couple thousand miles. For a little over 100.00, time to replace.
The old tire still gave me about the same life as two m/c rear tires at a whole lot less money. I've never got over 9,000 miles on a rear m/c tire and that was on my old Harley.

No mac, I just took the final drive unit to the dealer. Friend of mine mounted the tire......and I, along with Cliff's help, will be putting it back together.

The final drive work is kinda funny really. Called the closest dealer. Said I had to put the bike back together to get the warranty work done. Second dealer said just bring in the drive unit and he would take care of it.

Yeah with a bad U Joint to get warrenty I had to put the whole bloomin bike back together, and I have the ft end down too...

Then because i don't trust dealers i had to take the rear end back down A 3RD TIME AND i FOUND MISTAKES!

they balance the tire. I would guess the rubber bits that you see are merely the burrs from manufacturing the tire. They don't remove those cause you don't see them inside the tire.

Dynamic Ballancing, this will in theory change as the tire wears and match what the ballance becomes as the tire changes.

Dynabead tire wear myth

The last time I had my tires replaced the service manager was very knowledgeable on Dynabeads.

He told me that the myth was true when they first came out because they were made if metal. The ceramic beads they make now do not wear out tires.

As a matter of fact, he recommends dynabeads over balancing and has had customers replace many sets of tires with dynabeads and never reported a problem with them.

I have them now, I'll look for myself when I replace this set of tires.
