Cruise control quit - Solved
My Audiovox add-on cruise control quit on me. Anyone have any suggestions what to check first? I hate tracking electrical problems. I already checked the accessory fuse and it is all right. In addition, the lights in the buttons still come on, so I know the unit is getting power, and it is not a shorted or loose wire. But, the middle light will not light when I hit the 'on' button, and it does not set the cruise at all.
What am I missing?

if the center light does not come on, when turned on, it is the main power source that is the trouble.

You can call Audiovox and ask their customer servicedept. They used to have a guy there that really knew his stuff.

try spraying some contact cleaner around the ON button. Maybe you will get lucky.

Make sure your brake light is not on. The rear brake switch can get out of adjustment causing the light to stay on. The cruise won't set if the brake light is on.

Bob, I read your post on the brake light on another thread, and that helped immeasurably, because mine was doing the same thing as yours. I cleaned it up, but it still sticks from time to time, and I have to tap it to get the light to go off. That was the first thing I thought of, when it stopped working. I haven't played with it yet, so I don't know for sure what the issue is.

Clean the switch good and lube it with a light oil, And check the spring also, I had to replace mine a while ago because it was stretched and weak causing problems.

Ring, where did you find a new spring? Was it the entire unit, or just the spring itself?
Mine catches a little inside the switch itself, and I could not find a way to smooth it up.

If you can't make the switch stop hanging up, you may need to replace it as well. You may be able to polish up the shaft on the switch with a bit of emery cloth to see if that fixes it prior to replacing it.

Cruise control quit - Solved
Thank you so much for all your input, guys. I really appreciated it.
Found out what the problem was on Saturday. The fuse had fallen out of the fuse holder (in the headlight bucket). That simple! I opened the headlight and the fuse fell on the floor. Prayed a prayer of thanks, put it back in, and it worked again! Just in time to go ride tomorrow.

Thats an easy fix, to bad it not that simple all the time.
Thats another reason to have a fuse panel mounted somewhere rather than individual fuses tucked away. It makes it real easy to check fuses when they are all together.
