windshield advice

i have been caught in the rain a few times and my windshield sucks... the rain rolls over the top edge and instead of going over me it hits me right in the face... i have it raised all the way up and with just a little seating adjustment i can see right over or just through the top... i had a magna with a Memphis shades shield and it was great same height and the rain went right over...anyone else have this problem

What bike are you on now? Most here agree that the windshield come up to your nose and you should be looking over and not through it.
Another member found that if you tilt it slightly back toward you with a home made L bracket it allows for more air flow OVER you, so I would assume this would help with the rain.
Search the forum for windshield and you will see several threads.

sorry... 2004 nomad i will look at a bracket.. saw where someone done that withe a wire tie but i will not be wire tying anything but wires unless its an emergency

You might find it tacky, but when I had the Boulevard I ran that chrome door edge guard around the windshield and it helped with rain and wind.

I split a piece of rubber tubing and ran it over the edge of the windshield. Not sure how it works in the rain though, because I don't ride in the rain...

As I recall "idman" on this forum, modified his Nomads windshield angle...but I think he tilted it "forward" ! ...

I have the same "rain in the face" problems, and will be trying some 'modifications" soon !

It's not mentioned yet... so I will.

I'd highly recommend a Clearview or similar shield with a "recurve" lip at the top. The apparent wind is re-directed approximately 2" or so higher than a shield without one... and it's then much easier to hunker down into the pocket where there's no wind or water.

I have a Wind Vest shield on the Voyager, but the Clearview on the Nomad was better.

Edit... And I'd also recommend you click the "user CP" tab and load a signature line to your posts. That way no one has to ask "What bike?" etc.

What size clearview shield did you have on your nomad? How tall are you? I am 5'11"

Bigrat - have you noticed a big difference in the air flow with your mod on your windshield? I can't imagine it would work that well but I know sometimes these little things make a big difference when moving at speed.

BTW - is that a Kawi shield you have there?

The windshield is a Kawi, given to me by another member, and chopped down in height. This is my "Summer setup". I doubt the change in airflow is huge, but hard to tell as this setup is designed to be low and give me lots of air.

I just had the stock height shield - there's enough room in the height adjustments for fine-tuning.

The recurve meant I could have the shield mounted lower, so not interfering with line-of-sight at all, and less of a gap over the headlight bucket. That shield along with oversize lowers completely eliminated buffeting, and was well worth the money.

Their light tint is a nice color too... Much better than the Wind Vest light tint I have on the Voyager. I'll be going back to Clearview on this bike soon.
