Day Long Russell Seat

Well. After the Colorado rally (3000 miles) I followed Kris's (Netnorske) lead and bought a new seat.

Don't worry PETA No dead blue alligators here.

On both my Nomad and the ST1300 my butt would ache and those two butt bones would hurt like h&ll after 50-75 miles. I wasn't going to wait 4 years before I bit the bullet. I had the Nomad 4+ years and never upgraded the seat. Just bought a bead seat and gel pad, helped but not enough.

I got real lucky. I found a beautiful just like new used Day Long Russell (pic below) owned by a great guy that was almost my identical size. He is 6'1 200# and I am 6'2" 200#.

The seating surface is all leather and the sides are vinyl. I saved about $450 overall (vs. new) because it not only cost less than new but I was able to keep my old seat. I can sell the oldie for about $250 (custom heated seat) or hold on to it and reinstall it when it comes time to sell the the ST and allow me to sell the DLR. Not sure which way I will go. My total net investment in upgrading to the the DLR will be about $350 after all is considered (freight, selling old/buying DLR, etc). It even came with the rain cover.

I went for a 150 mile ride today and wow what a difference! Now I know why they are so popular on both the Vulcan and ST forum. Will give a full review in a few weeks after I have done a decent length trip and gotten used to it.

A ton of the guys that do LD (long distance) type riding have RDL seats. I wish I had the money to put them on both my bikes. Maybe if I sell one of the kids I could afford it.

Ha! I've been waiting for someone to kidnap one of my kids. Oh, they are gonna have to pay BIG MONEY for me to take them back! Gesh, I sent my son off the the wars in the Army, and damned if they didn't send him back - couldn't afford to feed him ... and I even told them that it was "no deposit - no return!"
