Which filter oil?
I've never used the reusable air filters before, and I got my Spectra Hi-Flow reusable filters yesterday. What oil do I use, how much, and how do I oil these things?

Mark: I just bought 1 of those myself. You can buy Spectre or K&N recharge kit which has cleaner and oil in it. That filter says it needs 12cc of oil to rechg. it looks oiled out of the pkg so I will run it a while then clean it and re-oil. Where i live those need cleaning about every 6-12 mo.

Which filter oil?
I bought a K&N filter recharge kit that comes with a bottle of cleaner and a bottle of oil. The filters only need service every 50,000 miles (according to K&N). I'd probably clean them annually, especially since I live in the dusty desert.

Which filter oil?
I read somewhere that a K&N filter actually filters better without loss of cfm as they get dirty. (Too dirty is obviously not good)

Which filter oil?
If they come pre-oiled, are they supposed to feel oily? These feel very dry.

Which filter oil?
I've been using a K&N in my Nomad for about three years. I have found through experience that they need to be cleaned and charged a little more often than what the manual says.
I check mine every 7-10,000 miles. Usually around 15,000 it needs cleaning and recharging. Sometimes it needs it before. I have also noticed that when it needs cleaning, my engine seems to race a little bit at idle.

Which filter oil?
I have had my K&N on only about 6-8 mo. and it was turning black(instead of pink) so it was dirty. Cleaned/re-oiled and looks new. these filters do need cleaning more often than auto K&N. ours get alot dirtier faster.

Al,
There's a recharging kit you can buy for the K&N. It consists of a bottle of cleaner and a spray can of red oil. Like Ring said...it looks like tranny fluid. When your filter needs cleaning, you take it off, spray the cleaner directly on the filter, let it soak for a few minutes, then wash everything off with water. After it's rinsed and the filter is good and clean, let it dry for about an hour or two. I usually set it under a fan for about 30 minutes. After the filter is dry, you spray the filter with a good dosage of red oil covering all parts of the filter. Get everything good and pink. Then re-install on your bike. That's the recharging process.
