Marine radio or not for fairing?
I've been looking at Marine radio's to install behind a splash proof cover for my fairing on my 1600
I went onto Reckless Fairings website, and it looks like they are using this one with the stereo / fairing package: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882105517 I don't see that radio being marine grade. I started thinking, if it's behind a splash proof cover, does it really need to be marine grade? Also , I noticed the marine grade radios are " Splash proof " I didn find a Kenwood, that says " Water proof " Big difference between the two Anyone running a regular car stereo on their fairing? I have almost the same radio except mine doesn't have the usb. I have it behind a splash proof cover but I never close it I have had it for almost a year now and no problems except the CD skips but they all do on a motorcycle.

Marine radio or not for fairing?
Yes, I installed this stereo in my fairing:
JVC KD-HDR60 I also have a splash cover for it. I wanted a unit with HD radio and a front USB port. Couldn't find a marine radio that met my needs. Most marine units have the USB port on the end of a cable coming out the rear. Couldn't figure out how to make that work and not look jerry-rigged. Admittedly, rain isn't a big worry where I live, but I spend a lot of time riding in the higher elevations in AZ, and get caught in the rain frequently.

Ive had good luck with just a standard stereo deck, no spash cover. It doesn't get wet unless you pour the hose on it directly. I also went with my choice because of the front USP port when I was purchasing the unit.

I went with the $110 Kenwood Marine, but do not have it wired yet.
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...put-Cable.html Just thought why not for $110 have the extra protection. Also don't feel like worrying about it when out in rain overnight or washing. I bought the spash cover as well though.

cocheese and I appear to have the same unit from the same vendor, model no. KMR 440U. It has USB and AUX on the front panel and removable face. It can also be equipped with Bluetooth and a remote control. There are certain standars needing to be met to be a "marine" unit. Good luck!

Yea I grabbed mine on ebay too. Mine does not have USB and I originally sought that only for charging, but the mini Ipods last for hours and with a radio it should not be a problem. I was more worried about the potential for water seeping down between the windshield or elsewhere and shorting the thing out. I am going to try and wire it this weekend. I painted the fairing 7 days ago, so I gave it plenty of time to cure. I will have to repaint the outter when it gets warmer, but my inner is as good as it is going to get.

Marine radio or not for fairing?
Sounds great. I was going to paint my inner/ outter myself, but I fould a local painter, when he has some down time, to paint it for $100.00 ( labor only ), I have the paint, reducers, hardners, clear coat etc.
So this radio doesnt charge the I-pod then huh? |

Not without a USB, and I only am assuming those will. I know they give the ability to display songs, but they should charge as well. Others can comment. I just know the nanos last all day. The ones with hard drives would drain faster, but I would not use those due to the shaking of the bike.
