Cleaning Throttle Body

Am cleaning the inside of the throttle body tubes, to remove the ring of ethenol build up at the butterfly seat. Was going to use a long Q tip and carburator cleaner but don't want to screw anything up. Any suggestions ?????.

Someone recently suggested a tooth brush. I used one on my trottle body and it worked fine. The brush was black when I finished.

Yes I also used a toothbrush. 5 minute job and made a noticeable difference in idle and throttle response.

Toothbrush & Q-tips. I used Seafoam in a squirt bottle, just doused the ports wait a coule minutes & clean. That way it was nothing that will damage any internals. Poured 1/2 of the can in the tank and go merrily on my way. It seems every time I clean it the idle goes up a couple hun! Amazing how it affects these Nomads!

This is such a quick fix I don't know why more riders don't do it. It is a little costly, tooth brush, sea foam, wifes new teeth
(totle bill $500.00)
Just got back from a 547 mile trip and the bike is running as smooth as ever. How often do you clean ???????

I clean it out about twice a season, or whenever you notice your idle drop.

Just an idea for you...should you be working alone & you do not have a " throttle lock" - wrap a cloth around your throttle, get a hose clamp, get it tight then run a bungee cord from the tail of the clamp & slip the other hook of the bungee cord to your wheel or something up front...this will keep them doors open so you can clean clean clean...:)

I use a toothbrush and a spray can of carb / injector cleaner. Just a reminder; If you use your throttle lock to hold the butterflies opened, don't forget to release the darn thing before you start up. ::)

Try this link and see if it works. It shows you how to get to it and what it looks like. Hope it helps you get the job done.
You can use Q-Tips or an old toothbrush. Throttle body cleaner or as Gadget suggests, Seafoam. Just be careful with the butterflies, be very gentle with them.

I used the small Q tips and Sea Foam.... worked wonders. I do mine twice a year.
Going to do it again now, now that it's off the road.
