Kick Stand Safety Switch
Hello everyone I'm hoping to get some help as my bike has been down for a month and my mechanic has done all he can do.
First the deets. 2006 KAWA Nomad 1600 FI 60,000 Miles. Bike starts up no problems. As soon as its put in gear it dies. First thing Mechanic did was clean off the switch and kick stand as it was all guncked up. It worked for him for a few days he took it out on a few test drives and the bike worked great. I went to pick it up fired it up, put it in gear and bam it died. I left the bike with them for another two weeks. They replaced the safty switch still would not remain running. Then another mechanic disconnected all the wiring and re connected them and it worked. I picked up it yesterday and rode it home about 5 miles no problem. Came out an hour later to go for a ride and guess what as soon as it is put in gear it dies. I can restart it if its in Neutral but it will not stay running when I put it in gear. One last thing that I thought of the other day. Last winter when I was taking the battery out I pulled the wires out of the middle MOLEX connector. I put them back in a sealed it up with connector grease and it worked but now it doesn't. I cannot find my manual but I seem to recall that middle MOLEX connector controls the lights and safety switches. Anyway any direction on next steps would be great. Thank you all. You don't say if the kickstand is up or down when you put the bike in gear ?

I presume there is also a safety switch at the clutch lever ?
You said the bike runs okay in neutral. I presume that is when the clutch lever is not pulled in ? Locate the clutch lever switch and can you hear it click when you pull in the clutch lever (with the engine off) ? If the switch does not appear to be "cycling" take it off and clean it. https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...+clutch+switch I don't own a Nomad anymore so I am not sure if a Nomad even has a clutch lever safety switch but many bikes do.

Hey Redjay,
Thanks for the response. I believe my mechanic checked the Clutch switch as well or at least he mentioned it. I will check to see if I hear a click later today but thats would be another place to discuss with them when I have it towed back. I'm also gonna have them take out my LED Wiring that another place connected to the ignition switch. |

My 1300 v star has a clutch lever switch and I can hear it clicking.
Its very faint but I can hear it. Did you watch any of the videos on the Youtube link I sent you ? Can you remove the switch and have a good look at it ? Press the actuating button and listen ? I cant remember if the button on the switch is in or out when the clutch lever is pulled but you can figure that out when you take a look at the clutch lever mechanism. Did you confirm that there is a switch ?

Nope, I just quoted the original posters comment re packing with grease so people would realize what I was responding to.
As for the dielectric grease comment I made about grease screwing up the connection. I looked for the article I was reading but be damned if I could find it again. What it had mentioned is that a lot of times on a small plug/pin, low current connection, if people pack the connector with grease it'll actually force the sockets open which ruins the connection. The example that was used was a 20-30 pin bulkhead connection on a firewall of a car that someone had packed full when re-assembling the plug screwing up a couple of circuits. There was another coating that was recommended but I can't find the name of it now, it was something with a number in the name......Mike
