3 months after shoulder surgery

Well, it's now 3 months after I had my Bankhart repair on my shoulder. Not that I think it matters to anyone in particular, but for my own sanity, I'm gonna keep posting.

I am lifting a whopping 4 pounds with my left arm. As stupid as it was, I attempted to ride today. I broke out the wife's C50 and managed to get it around the block. It was nice to be on the bike, but that 3/4 of a mile trip in the subdivision @ 20mph was enough to tell me that I'm no where near ready. I thought about trying the Nomad, but honestly, when I did, I didn't have the strength in my left arm to get it off the sidestand.

They tell me that the repair is about 95% healed and now they can get "aggressive" with the PT. We'll see. Unfortunately, I think there might be a chance this will have been one of my only rides this summer. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

Ride safe

tkd, glad you are healing up and happy to see you posting. I remember when my brother blew out his knee (ACL, PCL, MCL) and he called me to tell me he had lifted 5 lbs. during rehab...it sounded comical but I understood what a milestone that was in the rehab process. Keep working at a pace that is good for you and your doctors. You'll be back on the bike before the end of the summer.

Keep your spirits up tkd as hard as it might be. I know it's easy for me to say this because I'm not experiencing the pain that your are. The PT will get you back in shape. I know this from having knee surgery in 1989. I didn't think I would ever be where I am now even though it's not near 100%. You'll be back in the saddle, not soon enough for your liking but you'll make it. Take care and don't give in to the pain. It's only temporary.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm basically pain free other than sore muscles, which don't really apply in my opinion.

As for the laughing at 4-5lbs.....my first "weight" was a 6 ounce can of tuna and I actuall broke a sweat.

There is still hope for a few rides this year. I was back to work in 6 weeks after hip replacement so don't give up. In a few more weeks you will start seeing that light at the end of the tunnel, I hope. Take care and don't over do!

Glad to see your post. It's good to hear that you are coming along well.

Like the others have said, hang in there and don't give up.

We're all pulling for you and hope to see you at one of the rallys in the future.

Cheers,
Bob

Here's to a speedy recovery! Three months and you got out on a bike, even for a short ride is great, a ride is a ride in my books. Things will hopefully move quicker once you can get some real PT on it now.

The pt will really help over time, I went from barely being able to lift a can of soup to nearly back to normal. I don't have quite the range of mobility that I once had but it rarely becomes an issue.
Keep at it and it will come along.

Glad to hear you are coming along tkd.

You might want to consider endurance training with twelve-ounce weights. They sell them in convenient 24-packs (just in case you may have forgot)!

Thanks Guys.....believe it or not, it helps to have some encouragement.

As for the 12 ounce curls......no can do. See, every time you "curl", the weight diminishes, which is esentially the same as a "negative" workout, which is usually reserved for increasing size, not strength....I need the strength.

Good thought though.
