Rode the BMW K1600GT

BMW had their Demo days at my local dealer. Only had the chance to ride 1 bike.

PRO's - Nice screen, smooth engine, good power at the high end, liked the gear indicator.

CON's - Not much low end torque in any mode, terrible seat, cramped leg position, falls into corners faster than I want.

I think their R1250RT would be more to my liking.

Conclusion - Fun event but it felt good to get back on my 2006 Wing!

I still am amazed how well my 13 year old bike w/73,000 stacks up to the newer bikes.

I did ride the BMW 2017 R1200RT and 2017 1200 GS back in 2017. Nice bikes.

I've never ridden the 1600. I've sat on them. The GT reminds me of my RT, but it's a bit heavier for sure. The RT should fall into turns even quicker. They are meant to handle and are lighter than your gold wing by quite a bit. If you ride one up, the RT is a better choice, IMO. Surprised about the low end. Did you have it in dynamic mode? Could be the wrong mode was selected on purpose. I wouldn't get one because of the maintenance, specifically the valve adjustments. It can get expensive if there needs to be an adjustment. The newer RTs require special tools to adjust the valves. To me, that's a turn off. There's nothing out there I feel particularly drawn too at all, in cars or bikes. Seems things have gotten too boring and commoditized.

Hi Jim...yes, I tried it in Dynamic mode.

1600 is not a bike for me but I did like the 1200RT I rode a couple years ago. Very light.

Did not really the like feel/sound of the boxer but not a deal beaker. Also did not like that a factory backed extended warranty is not available to purchase. That IS a deal breaker.

I only have 73,000 on the Wing. I'll start worrying about a new bike when it has about 300,000 miles 😎.

The Goldwing is probably the most reliable motorcycle out there, but I just don't want a 930lbs bike or even a 840lbs bike. I ride solo 99.99% of the time anyway. I like the reliability and lower maintenance, except for air filter replacement, but it doesn't click all the boxes. Neither does anything else right now.

There was only one thing I liked about the Spyder, it doesn't fall over when you stop.

Neither does the Miata.
