Reed Valve Removal

Are there any advantages to removing the reed valve and putting in a coaster plate kit ?

Just a cleaner look... My reed valves are just blocked off, and I plan to mill coasters with fins to match the fins..

Well, you do shed a couple pounds off the bike, plus you eliminate some rubber hoses and the rubber diaphragm switch. Rubber rots, so when you eliminate rubber you eliminate maintenance. Also, in theory the bike should pop less through the mufflers, because it's getting less oxygen into the mufflers to burn the unburned fuel. Unfortunately, it adds a little to pollution, but only a little.

Like the others said, it gets rid of a little extra weight, and cleans up the look of the engine. the one bolt on the inside of the back cylinder reed valve is a "sunny beach" to get to, but not much problem to put back with the valve gone.

Good question. I've never heard of it on the other forums. But I've never had my bike fixed at a shop in 35+ years.

I was using the collective term "bike", you scoundrel!

It's like the royal "we".

But in the south they might say "all ya'all's bikes".

They're kinda verbose that way.
