Very Important Detail Question

I have a VERY IMPORTANT

detailing question for the group......I was detailing the bike today and looking at the cooling fins on the jugs......when new what color were the edges of the fins.....were they polished and have just gotten dirty, or were they painted black......thanks for the important feed back from the group.......and also what size the the hex opening on the spark plug tunnel...the front wheel tool is too small?

On my '07 the fins are polished from the factory on the edge.

They are just bare aluminium on the edge, not sure if its actually polished. You should be able to bring them back to like new looking by sanding them with some fine emery paper on a block.
I spray my cylinders with Pig Spit after I wash the bike and it makes the cylinders nice and black just like brand new again.

I think one end of the axel tool is also the same for the plug tunnel insert size..

Like Ring I use a small block of wood--------------- and 400 grit wet/ dry sand paper.

I have 2 dremels, but that seems like too much work, one fin at a time.

For really tight places I square a dowel sometimes, and saw a slit to pass papers thru, and wrap the paper around the dowel some. A finger keeps the loose paper end tacked down till the next adjustment of the paper.. 400 grit paper that is.

You would have to be very carefull with a Dremel tool depending on the grit or polishing coumpound as you may gouge or make the fins wavey. A block with sandpaper will keep them all flat and shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

Axle nut size is 22mm hex I believe, same size as the spark plug tube ?

i had heard that as well, however after checking there are different sizes........the axle nut is 22mm....I beleive the spark plug tube is 24 mm.
