Studded Leather

I searched other posts for info on studded leather but didn't see what I was looking for.

Where do you go to get your seats, backrests, etc studded? Winter time seems to be the time to do it.

I've seen a site on how to do it, but is there a site that sells quality studs? I don't want anything that is going to rust.

Wait.... I just realized what kind of cracks (no pun intended) this post is going to create!

Studded Leather

No puns here BnG. You might start with an upholstery shop to see if they will do it for you or sell you the studs so that you can do the job yourself. I plan to take my backrest to an upholsterer friend of mine this winter to get it studded to match my seats. Most of us cheat and buy seats with studs in them.

I do my own. It's easy if you have a good staple gun. You can buy the studs from J&P Cycles for just over a buck for a bag of 10. Do NOT buy the tool that makes the holes for the studs, it's junk. Check any seat catalog for the pattern you want. Mark your seat with chalk. Remove the staples and take the cover off. I used a small exacto knife to make the slots. Put the studs in and staple the cover back on the seat pan. I used stainless staples for obvious reasons. I also installed conchos.

I tried and electric stapler to put the seat cover back on and they wouldn't penetrate the seat pan. I got an 1/2" crown air stapler off harbor freight and it works great. On sale now $19.99

Here's how one guy did from Gadgets site. http://www.gadgetjq.com/harryseat.htm

If you cannot get what you want out of JP Cycles, try Tandy Leather. Depending on where you are at, there may be a store close by. I also did my own studs and conchos. Easy once you get things laid out.
