nomad longevity

I am looking to move up in the next year to a larger bike for touring. One of the bikes I am considering is the Nomad. What kind of longevity can I expect from this bike. I ride about 20, 000 miles a year and would like the bike to last a while. Is 100K+ a realistic expectation?

I've heard of units lasting that long, as any vehical that is well maintained and driven properly should. The 1500 & 1600 Nomad is no exception.

My 2001 just turned 60,000 and it is as strong today as it was when I bought it in 2004 with 6,250 miles.

Have done certain maintenance, but nothing that any other motorcycle would likely need.

Several member have 100K+ miles on their bikes. I've even seen two Nomads on here with 250K+ miles!

With proper maintenance it will easily last 100K miles

I have an 05 that turned 63,000 leaving the Talimena ride last week.
1 set of brake pads
steering stem bearings
rear swing arm and drive shaft maintenance
cam chain extenders
Multiple tires
???? can't think of anything else.

I know of one owner who had 252,000 miles on his Nomad. I turned over 48,000 on my '07 yesterday and have only performed maintenance on it. No serious issues at all.

They're almost bullet proof if you perform your routine maintenance. Welcome to the forum from SE Louisiana.

First, welcome to KawaNow. You won't find a better bunch of people here and they know everything there is about Nomads. Some even more!

Bought mine several years ago and wouldn't trade it. Keep the maintenance and tires good and you'll love the ride. Best of all when you get caught in a heavy rain a 1000lb pound bike handles very well.

Welcome! Probably the lowest maintenance, best mannered bike on the road. My own, like everyone elses, experience has been excellent. Also, I've read a LOT of reviews, and they all speak to the dependability of the Nomad.

As noted above, the line has a history of longevity in the 1500's and 1600's. Great bikes that last forever. If you are looking to get a 1700, then this will probably be true, but they are still so new that it really is unknown. However, probably a safe bet. All Kawasaki's seem to last.

No, thats a book called for maint. I do my oil and filter long before the book calls for it, as I do for the final drive oil. The book there is a total joke. No measely 6 ounces of gear oil is gonna last any thing like 24,000 miles LOL

And tires? Well you can slam on a new tire and it can be dead the next day.

Mac, you forgot steering head bearings, rear pinion seal, cam plug leaks and noisy fuel pumps.
