Spring in my filter

Good afternoon Gentlemen.I just changed my oil,and found this spring hanging onto my filter. Its about an inch long, and very fine.I reckon it must belong to the rev limiter on the camshaft.I had the head off last year, and messed up the torque on the head bolts,so blew a gasket.Next some time soon,i am going to fix that.I have heard of people removing the limiter, can anyone who has actually done that, give me a run through of whats involved please.

Some very clever person, on another site, suggested it was the side stand spring.I reckon he needs help putting petrol in his bike, and should be kept well away from mechanical things.

The rev limiter is all electronic and hence it is in the ECM.

That spring is specific with the squared ends, and I just can't think of it right now.

How big is it?

I knew it would come to me.

That is the spring off the water pump idler arm assembly.

If you take the cover off to access the clutch, it's right there at about 2 o'clock from the clutch.

It keeps tension on the drive chain.

It's the only spring with square shoulders that I can remember being inside the engine.

Don't worry too much, it likely broke and fell into the sump.

Weren't you trying to diagnose a noise from that part of the engine?

Try this one, look at the squared off shoulders, 92081.
http://www.kawasakioriginalparts.com...-L4&country=US

As far as the KACR just slide it off the cam.

If the spring were off the KACR your engine wouldn't be running.

Looks exactly like KACR Spring. Just changed two of them a few months back:

It should run without it but maybe starting will be a little difficult and could dig a hole in a rocket cover cause KACR unit will be not releasing and it will slapping towards the bottom of the rocker cover...

That would explain the top end noise its been making.
Although,as Mas pointed out, those springs have a curved end, according to the parts drawings anyway. We will see when i pull it apart.
