Traded the touque in for my full face helmet.

I left Yellowknife this morning a balmy -24C(-11f) and got home some 13hrs and 1300km(800miles) later with temps sitting at 11C(52f). My street is nearly void of all ice so after unpacking I decided it was time to fire up the Nomad and go for a ride after nearly 5 months of hibernation.

Finally got to try out my goodies I got for Christmas, the Engine guard chaps, vista cruise and grasshopper backrest. It felt friggin awesome.

Here are a few pix from our trip up North.

Alberta/NT border crossing.

Ice bridge across the Mackenzie river.

Ice bridge is rated for 64 tonnes

View of Yellowknife bay on Great Slave Lake. Those are houseboats frozen in ice that are used year round. You can see the ice road to Dettah, a small Native community.

View of Downtown Yellowknife.

Let the 2009 riding season begin! For me anyways.

Now that's just cold ... ;) ... Great shots. The Ice Hwy's must feel a little strange to run across. Yellowknife looks bigger than I expected. ... Now where are the pics of the Nomad all decked out with the Christmas toys attached?

I was surprised by the apartment buildings they had, I never would have thought that. I guess they dont bury the hydro wires either. Another place I would like to visit someday.
Is the road to Yellowknife paved or is it still gravel? I was on it about 35 years ago in the south end.

Thanks for the pics Bosko. I don't know how people "keep on keeping on" where the weather is like that. Being a prairie boy from Winnipeg I know what 6' ft. drifts and cold {-40 + a wind} is all about. But does it ever really warm up there? At least on the prairie it gets hot in the summer.
