Has not been a good day overall. I own one of the units in this building that I have rented out... :(... Just hope no one was injured, and that my renter had contents insurance.

I own (technically the bank 'owns') a unit on the 4th floor, you can kind of see there is no roof now and the 4th floor is now burning...

Tough brake, I hope you have sufficient property insurance, and that no one was hurt.

The fire was in Calgary, AB. It displaced about 300 people right now. The building was a 159 unit complex.

Still waiting to hear what the real damage is, but thankfully no one was hurt, including the first responders, so honestly that is the important part right now. The condo is about 150 miles from me so I have not seen it, but I am waiting to hear back from a good friend that lives there, and she lost a lot more than me, all her stuff was in the building.

Property can be replaced. Memories, photos and documents are a bit more difficult, but as long as no one was hurt badly or killed all will be well. I am sure that the good people of Calgary will pitch in and help these people. God Bless them all and they are in our prayers.

Geez Cory.....I'm happy to hear that no one was hurt. Believe me, that was one heck of a fire to contain! It is super hot with plenty of fuel as evidenced by the black smoke. It's a miracle that none of the firefighters suffered smoke inhalation problems.

The fire department did an incredible job but unfortunately it looks as though the whole building will be coming down, cheaper to rebuild than repair. This building was built in 2008 just before the bylaws changed requiring sprinklers in the attic space, but the rest of the living spaces all have them, and it appears to have started on a balcony, so no sprinklers there....

It is going to be a long night for a lot of people, they lost everything and reports are at least some of them did not have insurance (other than the condo boards insurance on the building itself), so they are very hard hit...

Here is a news story, pictures and video as well...

Stories like this are always hard on everyone. Hope no injuries or deaths...yes, property can be replaced, but it will be a struggle for a number of folks. I feel sorry for all concerned.

After reading the news story, it's even more amazing no one was injured or killed in this blaze.
