Need Bright Light on Country Road

I have a stock '08 Nomad. I want to light up dark country roads the best I can with my stock headlight and without adding an expensive light bar right now. I would like to know what bulbs and or other suggestions that can help me.

Thanks.

Check Gadgets Fixit site, he list a few bulbs and does a comparison of them. There is a 85-100 watt bulb available but Im not sure what brand it is.

Some have changed the headlight bulb with a Wagner BP1210/H4. Seem to be only found at NAPA stores. Its an "off-road only" bulb. Google Wagner BP1210 and read about what people say about it. Around $15

Chuckster's Customs makes some nice looking lights similar to the CWI billet mount lights at a more reasonable price. http://www.chucksterscustoms.com

The Wagner BP 1210/H4 is the bulb I use. Makes a huge difference. Carry your stock bulb as a spare. Mine last a little over a year each.

I changed out the headlamp with a Sylvania Silverstar 55w-60 and added a set of Motolights on the front brake calipers. Motolights are a great product.

Walley world has some very small lamps for under 20 bucks. These mimic the amber pods and can bolt up easy on the bottom lowers bolt holes. 55 watts each, so you need to wire in a relay if you want them to be on with the key, and add a ground from the forks to the frame.

OR create your own circuit and switch for light any time you want, in proper wire for 10 amps fused.

And or change the oem bulb to more watts.

Might try doing it on the cheap first. My bright light went out on my trip a month ago. Replaced it with the stock bulb as long as I was next to the Kawasaki store. I thought the original was bright, the replacement is really good. Appears there have been some improvements to the lights in the last couple of years.

I was staying with some friends out in the Black Hills. The dirt road was lit up like daylight and I had no problems. My friends commented that my bright light was better than what they had on the car.

I'm going to check out the suggestions...Thanks.

How much do I need to worry about which bulbs will generate to much heat, and melt things I do not want melted?

I think you can run around 110 watts as high beam and be ok. So Rings suggestion of 85/100 is in that ball park. My liberty bike an Xs 850 sh triple old 1981 yammi runs a snowmobile bulb about that watts. It does it with a 20 amp alt and in a smaller bucket.

My little under 20 bucks a pair walley world lamps are pretty good light too set low so I can see well and have light between the flick of hi lo.

What Mitch said. The 1210/H4 is awesome. It throws out as much light as my Bronco headlights. BUT, they burn out so keep a spare bulb and a philips screwdriver handy.
