Lowering Small Windshield

Is there a way to lower the small windshield so that it is positioned almost on top of the headlight? I ride with the main windshield as high as possible. Wondering if it will reduce wind blast.

Yes. Remove the windshield from the bike, 4 bolts. Take the wind shield to your work bench or inside where its cool. Take it apart--it will be evident . The lower shield does slide lower to where it will sit close to the headlight....

Reason I say take it inside is so that when you take it apart, you can clean the gasket and built up dirt...if you try to just slide the shield with it dirty it will scratch the shield...so take it off, take it apart, clean it, put it back together with the lower shield lowered, put it back on the bike and ride:)

It really is a simple process....i mean, i even did it ;)

The rubber gasket that sits between the small shield and the windshield bracket sticks to the plexiglass and won't let it slide. This is why you need to disassemble it and clean it. Also sand/dust caught between the two shields can scratch things up if you try to slide them without cleaning things first.

Also be very careful with the chrome acorn nuts. They seize up very easily. I had to cut two off with a dremel when I worked on my windscreen. Best bet is to just replace them with stainless screws and acorn nuts.

Just took my lower shield completely off a few months ago. Raised the upper as high as it would go. Looks much better than that ugly smaller shield down there. And the headlight pretty much keeps any air from coming in through that gap. And I don't have to worry about cleaning between the shields. Worthless is ya ask me. My 2 cents. Jamie

When I bought my Nomad used the previous owner had removed the sub-shield and thrown it away. Does anyone know of a good supplier for a replacement that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg?

afgunner, I have the sub shield from my '07 that I took out. Don't need it, never will. To big of a hassle to keep it clean between the two and I run my shield all the way down anyway.

$20 plus postage and it's yours. USPS flat rate box will be about $10 I think. PM me it you want it. Not sure what years are interchangeable but your windshield in your sig. pic looks just like mine.

Antiseize ever nut and bolt that is reused. These are all stainless teel and will not stand the tight a carbon steel fitting will so be careful to not over tighten any.

It is a good idea to fold a face cloth in 1/2 and tape it to the lamp bucket, so if you drop a part of the screen assembly the chrome won't gets a dent. and you need that much gap no mater what or dead bugs will be caught in a place you can't ever reach no matter what.

Is there any negatives/problems with removing the lower shield?
