Helps keep from backfiring by stopping air into the manifold. This is mostly heard if using custom pipes.

The reed valves introduce air into the exhaust system to allow any small amounts of unburned fuel to combust. You hear it with aftermarket pipes because they are not muffled and silenced as the OEM pipes are. Marbling blocks the air intake to the reed valves hence no air for the unburned fuel to detonate.

Marbeling will reduce the heat from the exhaust pipes also. Every time you down-shift to brake you are burning fuel in your exhaust pipes. I had a measurable difference when I marbelled my 1700.

Cooler pipes and the fan runs less.

Did this on my 03, no regrets...doesn't eliminate all popping, just gets rid of the annoying popping ;)
