Rear Cyclinder Oil Leak

2008 Nomad 40,000 miles
Replaced Cam Chain Tensioners at 25,000
No TFI
No Air intake mods
Pipes changed to VH

I have a oil leak that is pouring out a hole that is on the rear cyclinder. The hole is left of the chain tensioner.

I can't see any threads where a screw is supposed to go. I have inserted a bar-b-que scew in and it goes in about 4-6 inches into the block.

When the bike starts after warm up oil will start to pour out. There is no oil leaking from the cam plugs or the tensioner assembly, I could see it pouring out of this hole

Is there supposed to be plug in here? I have a shop manuel and I can't find where this is located in the book, or the internet, or any exploded views I have looked at on the internet.

Why is this happening? and how can I stop it?
Is there a screw missing?
Is there a plug of some sort?
Thanks
Jon

I too have an 08 Nomad.
I just went out to the garage and looked at mine.
It has the hole also and no oil coming out. There is no plug or anything on mine just the hole. Because of it's location I can't see into the hole so I don't know what is in there. And I don't want to stick anything in the hole.

Sorry that's all I have..........

Bob

Thanks for looking. That is nice to know that yours and mine look the same. I wish it didn't and I needed to put a plug or something.

Id never heard of that happening before, plug it with something and perhaps let the dealer look at it. It may be a vent of some sort or perhaps the hole isn't supposed to be drilled as deep as yours is.
Usually its the rubber cam plugs that cause an oil leak.

I just check on my 2006 and yep. There is. I carefully stuck a small wire into the hole and it went an inch or two without bottoming out. I didn't push it any further.

I have no idea what the problem could be. I've never heard of this issue either.

Jared,
Thanks for looking. I used a wood bar-b-que skewer and it deep into the block stopped at about 6" or so.

I found some oil on the rear spark plug threads, but no leaks coming out from there. When it is running I can see the oil stream out.

It is too hot in there to see if it is supposed to suck in air for some reason. I think I will get a wood dowl to fit the hole and plug it and see what happens.

Lucky me, I have had the cam chain tensionser leak oil, the slave cylinder leak, 2 clutch rod seals failures, one inside the engine that got lost, I had to the cam chain tensioners 2 times because after the extenders one wasn't extending. No idea why, I took it apart and it worked just fine, put it back and no more problems. I had a radiator leak also. I bought a very leaky bike.

Thanks
Jon

Hmmmm. That is too bad. Especially for being an 2008. I've owned three Nomads and none of them have linked, knock on wood.

Does the front cylinder have that same hole in the same location? You may be able to compare them that way.

No I have not looked. That would mean I would have to take off the dog bowls to see, and I am not sure I could probe to see if it goes into the engine. My air intakes plastic piece that holds the air intakes in place broke a while back. I have them sort of jerry rigged to stay in place. I discovered when they broke when I went to replace the air filters, no idea why they broke, they just are.
