The story was from a KC station.

The guy that got shot feels like his rights are being violated . . .
And wants to claim the old man should have had some self control and "just drove off". - Regardless of the events unfolded, the BIKER is the one that left his vehicle to confront the other driver.

BUT who knows, there could be a lot of details we don't know. I would take it as a lesson to stay cool because you don't know how crazy the other person may be.
1: Don't spit at a biker
2: Don't "slap" an old man

Interesting case. Lessons to be learned here.

What if Grandpa intentionally cut off the wife? Does that change anything? Vehicular assault?

I doubt he did with Granny and the Grandkid in the car but you never know.

Violated . . . yeah, right. As I said before, he's now giving statements with his lawyer beside him. Why does he need a lawyer, he was not charged with anything. Wait another week and you will see the Civil lawsuit filed. It's just the way it works in this Country.

If you're going to shoot someone, make sure there's only one side to the story.
Your side!

Then the family will sue you and you don't have the perp. to depose. I'm not kidding, the lawyers line up for these cases. No matter how right the shooting is there is a high probability you will be sued. Right or wrong makes no difference. Make sure you're insured.

I was told by a friend's dad (state police), if you shoot in an instance like this. If you can pee or poo yourself on the spot, DO IT. It's a common thing to happen on accident when someone is in serious fear for their life. SO if you can wet your pants, it backs up your story . . .

Now that is just some fine advice you are offering Jay!

Shoot and then pee your pants...

Honest officer... I was so scared I pee'd my pants... just look. Go ahead smell it... it's pee alright!

There are times I certainly wouldn't want to be an officer... and that would be one of them.
