The dual plate and single plate Chuckster kits for the 1600 install on the right side. The dual plate uses a K&N filter sandwiched between the plates with the stock bowl covering the unit. Stock bowl remains on the left side if you desire. It is doing nothing as all air is pulled in from the right side following the mod.

I installed the single plate. Tore out the crossover and installed a Stebel air horn on the left side.
Right Side Left Side (the stock horn is long gone and eventually I'll make a bracket so the Stebel sits higher...) Oh yeah... And I'm very happy with the results

So both the Single-side and Dual Pate can have the left side dogbowl attached.....
but if remove crossover and want dogbowl on the left, THEN you have to use dual-plate.... so why get the dual plate? |

Derry, You can remove the crossover tube and leave the OEM bowl on the left if you want to. I did because I had the dual plate with the OEM bowl on the right. If you go with the single plate, you have an open breather with a decorative plate on the outside of the open filter. The dual plate allows the OEM bowl to remain appearing to be stock.

Not going to take away from chuckster as he makes a class product, but if you're cheap (like me) you can do the right-side intake mod by simply buying a K&N filter (E-3527) and a Spectre 4770 filter assembly - you really just need the 9" round filter cover. K&N sells a filter kit as well, but it is more expensive than buying the filter and cover separately.
gadgets fixit page has the details .... but it really is as easy as slapping the filter and cover on there... you'll need a slightly longer M8X1.25 bolt (30mm length will do) and a spacer behind the cover will be nice as well (about a 1/4 inch spacer). Getting the filter into the 9" round cover takes a second as it is a TIGHT fit, but it works. This is for 1500/1600 nomads - the 1700 is different. The CobraFI tuner will work fine... it has three pots to tune versus the TFI which has 4 (but TFI really only needs two for our bikes). Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I insulated my left side and put in a few things like a spare key, socks and some cash, As well as a little led flashlight. Keep an allen wrench in the saddle bag to remove the bowl if I need to get to these items.

It's also a good place to mount a fuel processor.

I had the dual plate but used it as a single plate. I left the left side bare. It didn't bother me any.

BTW...I think it FINALLY sunk in....Dual Plate and Single plate have nothing to do with the left side...Dual plate equals 2-plates right side......I was equating the 2nd plate as being need on the left side to hold the dog bowl there....geeeeeez ;)

Kinda figured that's what you were thinking when you asked why install the dual plate kit. As they say "Now you know".

I installed the dual plate kit and removed the cross over tube and everything on the left side.
I wouldn't go back! I had bought the kit a year before but to to scared about the install. I was kinda forced into the install because I had a vacuum leak that I couldn't find. After looking so many places for the leak I realized the Chuckster kit is pretty easy. It eliminated 3 of the vacuum lines and fixed my problem. I know it's not supposed to add more power but I think my Nad runs better now. Seems to have more power and seems to required lower RPMs to do the same work as before. My gas mileage has always sucked but I think I'm getting a couple more miles per gallon now. I have V&H baggers and the TFI fuel processor. |

I put on the dual kit. I too left the dog bowls on for awhile then found an air filter cover and opened up the breather. With that done, I didnt want to leave the left side dog bowl on anymore. When I removed the crossover I left the bracket in place and used it to mount a Screaming Banshee Horn.

I have the dual plate and as others have said left side is unchanged. I also have a cobra FI-2000 and it works fine with the air intake. The only issue I had was that after the install, my right dogbowl was touching the gas tank. Chuckster made me a custom outer plate with a "V" logo machined in. You can see what the right side looks like in my Avatar. The Nomad runs much better with this mod.
