Heated gear connection

For you folks that use heated gear and have fairings, do you use a connector on the fairing or have you mounted something closer to the seat? If you use the fairing outlet, are there issues with the cable? Flopping in the wind, rubbing on the tank? I’m guessing I will need the two-foot extension. I am going to use the Powerlet outlet, but have yet to mount the connector on my Vaquero. The outlet falls right through the knockout for an outlet, so I have to come up with an adapter of some sort. Unless of course, there are better ways to go at this!

Where are you going to have the heat controller? I clip mine on to my chaps so the power for the heated gear comes out the front left side of the seat. You just have to remember to unplug before getting off the bike.

I was going with the dual wireless temp controller so I should be able to put it pretty much anywhere. The actual power connection for the jacket comes out next to the bottom of the jacket near the zipper. I'm thinking that the two-foot extension should get me plugged in. This is all new to me however, I'm doing a lot of reading and guessing and hoping!

Sit on your bike and figure out where the dual controller will be first. It has to be easy for you to reach while you're riding. My controller came with a case that can clip on to clothes or belt. You have to have that controller in a spot that you won't be fidgeting while your riding trying to find it. Once you know where the controller will be then you can figure out how long the extension that you need will be. If you get an extension that is to long you will be trying to figure out where to tuck the wires or getting tangled in them.

I like having my controller on my leg. It's easy to just reach down and adjust it without taking my eyes off the road and with the gloves on. I only have to use my left hand.

I am shopping for some heated gear as well. Do you find yourself adjusting the temp often? Or do you generally set it and leave it most of the time?

I start off with the temp all the way up but do have to adjust as the gear gets warmer.

I use a TourMaster heated jacket liner that has a controller and comes with a thigh strap to hold it, which makes adjusting the temp easy. I have a 12V receptacle on the left side of the fairing and wire tie the wires to my handlebars so they do not rub the tank. Just remember to unplug before dismounting.

I use the 12 volt light outlet on the voyager, I just wrap the cable around the handlebar making sure it doesn't interfere with any controls, I have had no issues using the lighter adapter and plan on using the same one for the heated vest that is on its way to me.

I have Gerbing jacket liner & gloves. Gloves plug into jacket sleeves & the jacket plugs into dual controler I clip to the left leg chaps. My connector comes out from under the left side of the seat. Works great w/no wires flapping, etc. I've never had it on high. Low has worked great down into the 20's & I DO NOT like cold! Once set to a comfortable level it's very stable & doesn't require adjustment unless temps change significantly.

Just did my first ride up to Maine with heated vest and gloves - 38 degrees on Tuesday morning - the heated gear was like being wrapped in a just out of the oven chocolate chip cookie . . . It was NICE. I ran my connection plug out the front of the seat - I have the SageBrush Designs tank bib - so ran it under that and up through the square cutout . . . It tucks nicely out of sight between the seat and the pouch on the bib and is very easy to get to . . . I run the gear through a a dual heat troller which I kept in my jacket pocket - I'll probably be buying a case for it and clipping it to my chaps for the next ride . . .

I have the First Gear heated jacket liner and gloves with the heat controller mounted under the seat and directly connected to the battery. The connection to the jacket/gloves is under the rider's end of the gas tank which is easily reachable when you wish to "hook up". The control is mounted on the left side cover near the top so that temperature can be controlled without looking down. I've enclosed some pics .

For those of you with 2011 Vaquero, did the bike have enough to power all the heated gear without draining the battery or causing havoc with electrical?

I had the unit all last winter and there was absolutely no problem---plenty of electrical output!

I velcro'ed the remote dual controller to the bottom of the left handlebar control unit, still have about a half inch or more of clearance at full turn. Jacket worked great, as did the glove liners, but I have gone and purchased a different pair of gloves to wear them in. I connected the power cable to the auxiliary connector and routed it under the seat so it is accessible under the seat nose (for lack of a better description). When not in use, I gently lift up the nose and tuck the cable in a half circle underneath. I think we have a winner!
