Stoned in Colorado

Travelling out west on a 44 day ride pretty soon. I am thinking about avoiding Colorado. It pisses me off that people can run around there and legally smoke weed but I cannot conceal and carry in that state as a non-resident. I wonder if the data shows traffic safety has suffered since the legalization of weed?

If your only going to ride in states that recognize your permit from Illinois you only have 22 states to ride in.
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont and Wisconsin.

Illinois does not honor Tennessee but we honor Illinois this is something I do not understand If you have a permit in a state where you have to have a background check and take classes and qualify with a hand gun you should be legal in all 50 states

I will have to travel in some others that do not recognize Illinois. I was thinking about trying to get my Florida permit before I go. That will open up some others.

I couldn't disagree more. A 50 state permit is one more way to track you. I believe in Constitutional Carry and don't believe a permit should be required under any circumstances.

Store it in your saddle bag. Check the laws, but if I remember correctly, on the motorcycle is considered part of you ''castle'' and CC is allowed. It's when you leave the bike that you have problems.

I have my Colorado permit, but I never got my Utah permit. The Utah permit would have allowed me to carry in a bunch more states, but I don't really care. I will get around to getting the Utah permit.

Don't lump us all in with the pot heads. On the flip side, if you don't want your rights infringed on, don't think about infringing on others. Drugs are a right some people choose to exercise. [/soapbox]

I don't care if people smoke pot. I know what it smells like cause I've seen it on TV! I really don't care if people do meth, coke, or opiates either. I think all that should be legal so we can let nature take it's course and thin out the gene pool a little. I was just contrasting the extremes in what the dumb ass politicians do. However I do think smoking pot will lead to more traffic deaths. Unfortunately a lot of innocents will suffer.

I'll have to research, but I don't think there has been a single death to legalized marijuana.

For the record, I don't and never have smoke marijuana. (That's a seriously white word, let's say weed). I have no desire to smoke weed.

Everyone freaked out about it on Halloween too, thinking kids were going to get dosed. Not a single kid was dosed.

I wouldn't avoid Colorado if I were you. It's a beautiful state with some great places to ride. Not going there because of a bunch of pot heads gives them control over what you like to do. I say Screw That. Just keep those assholes away from me... There are plenty of pot smokers here in Montana as well as every other state too, probably more around where you live than you are aware of. We just don't have a law that the media can put all over TV so everybody and their brother can learn all about it.

Have a great time and ride where you want....

I wouldn't worry too much about this. Ride around here all the time and the drivers are just as bad before legalization as they are now.

There has been one linked to weed and driving that I know of. That was in Denver.

I don't think he is advocating for a 50-state permit issued by the gov. I think he just means that since your state gov deemed you fit to carry in that state, then you should automatically be able to carry in all other states...kind of like a driver's license...none of that one way reciprocity crap.

BTW, I firmly believe that you shouldn't need any kind of a permissions [permit] from the gov to exercise your God given right of being able to protect yourself and your family. I live in Mass and we have to jump through a bunch of hoops in order to get a permit. Up until recently you could be denied just because the chief of police didn't like your haircut. They have since "improved" the gun laws with the most resent legislation so at least now the chief has to have a valid reason for denial but then you still have to fight it court.

Colorado has had a “Drive High, Get a DUI” campaign for the last year. There are consequences and I don't think for a minute that impaired driving went up because of the recreational marijuana law. People who are going to drive impaired were already doing it with alcohol before the law. That is true for every state by the way. Just because something is not legal doesn't mean it's not happening.

Can I get an AMEN!! Colorado has 90 days to issue or give a reason they didn't. My CCW took 89 days to be issued. My county sheriff is notorious for taking the max time allowed.

Agreed. Drinking and driving is illegal and people still do it.

What's the difference between driving drunk and driving high? Drunk drivers will run a stop sign, high drivers will wait for it to turn green.

I don't condone driving under the influence, this is just a joke.

Nevada no longer honors my Arizona permit. Screw 'em. They don't have anything I want, anyway,
