DM Handle Bar review

I wanted to write up a quick review on the Don Myers (DM) bars I installed last week. I have a 2014 Vaquero, am 5.11, 170 lbs. and have a Corbin solo seat (young guns) installed.

The bars were the 11.5 inch, bolt on type; meaning the DM bars fit properly with the stock cables and hoses. The DM bars were powder coated black, and where professionally wrapped and shipped. Mr. Myers provided me with a tracking number and was a pleasure to deal with.

The install was easy and took about 2.5 hours, this included the removal of the old bars and the install of new AVON grips. After riding approximately 300 miles, taking several trips, these are my thoughts:

My upper body position (torso and arms) have moved towards the front of the bike. Instead of my torso being vertical, it now leans forward (See pics). I now sit in a more aggressive riding position. This give me the impression that I have more control over the bike, at speed. I have found that this aggressive position has me driving faster, which has led to the floorboards scraping the pavement more than before.

I have also discovered that slow speed maneuvering (parking lot, gas stations, etc.) requires me to move my body (slide my butt) forward in the Corbin seat. This allows my torso to remain upright for balance and provides me better control of the handlebars when conducting the slow speed turns.

I have learned that the clutch and break levers touch my windshield at full right/left lock. I believe this may be a combination of my Cee-Bailey 7inch windshield and the fact that I have my levers extremely dipped in a downward position. Not a big deal, but I am conscious about it when backing into a parking space

All in all, I am extremely happy with the DM bars. They were exactly what I was looking for; and in conjunction with the Corbin seat, have allowed me to “stretch out” on the Vaquero.

Thanks for the review, mine are shipping tomorrow; can't wait to get them on during my next wrenching session...

I had Dons first set of bars. Zero complaints. If I ever buy another bike that requires different bars, I'd buy Dons again.

Looks great. So 11.5 inches doesn't require cable and wire extensions? That Corbin seat looks great.

Duc796 - The DM Bars did not require cable and/or wire extensions. I kept all the stock hoses, electrics, and cables.

Thanks Jester. I'm going to look into that seat and I already spoke to Don, when I'm ready I will be ordering his bars. :)

We were all newbies at one time or another

So the easiest way is... you could look him up in the alphabetical member listings (or just follow my link) and then simply send him a PM asking for details.

I'd say it's probably better to PM or email him than to leave a message on that member page, you'll get a faster response. Click the drop down arrow under Don's profile pic & chose the middle or bottom option... either "send private message to dmeyers", or "send message via email to dmeyers"

Got in this evening to find my DMyers Bars waiting on me. I had some time so I went ahead and got them on immediately. I am very happy with the fit, finish and construction as I knew I would be. The position is awesome for me being 6'4" with long arms (6'8" "wingspan"). I wanted to add a pic to this thread comparing the OE bars with the DM Bars; aside from aesthetics (which are awesome) basically all these are doing is taking the "Tiller Effect" out of the OE bars. The extreme pull back of the OE bars caused me wrist pain from the weird angle it had my wrist at but I have broken my left wrist twice so maybe that's just me. With these my hands just lay flat and straight on the bars in a very comfortable, relaxed position; I am not leaning or reaching any differently.

Also wanted to show clearance with OE mirrors and an 11" Clearview Shield. The Clutch/Brake tucks in nicely with the stockish positioning of the levers (can't tell any difference, if there is any it's slight) and everything clears the shield at full lock. Don't mind the missing Phillips head...I stripped it out being a moron; picking up a replacement tomorrow. Also you'll notice I desperately need windshield trim; working on that.
I'm switching out mirrors this weekend but don't foresee any issues...
