Gps you have to see it to use it

I am going on a trip this summer will be putting lots of miles on the Vulcan 1700. I just got fed up with the car GPS. I could not see it most of the time because of sunlight glaring on the unit and could not hear it for sure. Was a total waste of time.

I broke down and bought the Garman Zumo 660LM and wow what a difference that makes with total visibility and it hooks up with blue tooth to my Nolan Helmet sound system and gives me the prompts. It does work flawlessly. It is waterproof and fairly shock proof. It will even work with the gloved hand. This is made for the motorcycle crowd. It comes with everything you need mounts, direct wire wiring, car wiring and mount for a car also.

Yea allot of difference in pricing from a car model car model 2597 I had was about 200 bucks and this is well within the 600 range. Allot of difference for sure and why I am writing this is because when I purchase my 2597 last spring I did not know there was a better unit made for motorcycles until I had it quite awhile. I wish someone would have posted a thread so I knew so I thought I would post one and let others know there is a motorcycle GPS unit that is awesome.

They are great units, one came on my wife's spyder ST Limited. She let me borrow it for a while but last weekend she wanted it back. So I've been thinking about buying one for my self and found them on Amazon for $431.

Ive got the Zumo 665 and yes, it works like a champ. I use the same unit in my RV and my truck. It replaced my Sirius radio, MP3 player, phone and older GPS all in one. The 665 does weather and traffic also. Been rerouted around a pile up or tornado warning more than once.

Take a look at this site also. Its easy to install, is removable and works if the sun gets real bad. It also folds over the screen when you take the unit off the bike as a protector.

I had a car unit, made a water proof case, then a sun hood, still couldn't hear half the time and finally bought the Zumo 550 a few years back. Night and day, I also stream my phone through it and have music, phone calls and directions to my head set. Granted I don't normally ride around making or receiving calls but it is still handy to stop and make a quick call or return a call without having to take the helmet off and get the phone out.

Like Norm I have the Zumo 550 also.
Well I actually have 2 of them. One screwed up, I had it repaired but didn't want to take a chance on it going to the National this year so I bought another on Ebay for backup.
Turns out we are not going to be able to attend after all but you can't have to many toys

Anyone using the TomTom Rider? What makes the Zumo worth the extra money over the Rider?

I have the TomTom Rider current version. It's a good GPS that will let you plan your routes or have it take you on a winding route. It's waterproof and easy to see. It does not have a headphone or speaker jack but does have bluetooth.

I also have a TomTom Rider. I do find it difficult to use in daylight. It works great with my Sena communication set.

I use an older car TomTom. I really like it most of the time, but TomTom's customer service is exceptionally poor if you ever have a problem.

The GlareStomper works really well. I have the TomTom (car unit) in an AquaBox with the GlareStomper over the box instead of on the GPS itself. The silicon window on the box has a bit of glare. Combine that with a screen not intended for use in direct sun and a helmet visor with the sun shade down and the GlareStomper becomes a necessity! Even with it, I still can't always see the screen.

The only place that I could always see the screen was when I had the car TomTom mounted on the ledge above the radio on my fairing. It was about 8 inches down from the bridge of my nose. I think the reason that I could see it all the time is that it wasn't tilted up. It was just facing me.

Well tonight I loaded up all my tunes on my 660LM and am amazed. Some one said on a website the sound was not that great well I disagree. I was using a IPOD with my Nolan Helmet with the N-Com system and it was great but this is better actually. Great sound and can hear the cut ins of the GPS giving me directions really well. So that is wonderful as I can now take my ipod off my handle bars and just have one unit all in one the Zumo 660LM I am very happy camper.

That's my goal. I want just my coffee cup holder on my handlebars. I picked up a Pioneer AppRadio that I'm going to have waterproofed and stick it in the fairing over the winter.

Yes is so great to know where you are going but one of the best things about unit also is how it snaps in and out of cradle also. It is so firm in the cradle and yet snaps out so easy also. If I was buying another GPS even for a car I would go with the motorcycle units by Garmin they are just great
