Had a few beers in ya, did ya! Mine topped out at 95 without hitting the limiter before adding the big 3. Now it will reach 105 but still doesn't hit the limiter. I've hit it several times in 1st gear.

That doesn't seem to pencil out.

What is the limiter? I didn't know the Nomads had one. On m 2007 Rocket 3 Classic Tourer, the limiter was set at 135 mph which I discovered while trying to break the sound barrier in Montana. When I downloaded the new custom tune, it opened the secondaries along with the deleting the speed limiter. Then things got a little scary.

It's not that I intend to go over 105 MPH on my Nomad but is there any way to lift that limiter?

As i understand it the limiter is a mechanical device that sit's on the camshaft,it operate's at a set rpm to keep the valve's open and prevent over revving the engine.Unless you are totally devoid of any mechanical sympathy, and abuse the shit out of your bike, you are never going to come across it,certainly not in top gear.

What mick said. I've had my 1600 top out several times and have never hit the limiter. The motor just won't rev that high at top speed. On the other hand I've hit it many times in 1st gear. I think that's because they geared 1st so its easy to get rolling when packing a heavy load. The result is the engine hits high RPMs pretty quick.

No, not unless the clutch is slipping. Pencil and paper give a range of approximately 132-141 on a five speed although you will never pull it. On a six speed I know you can be in 4th gear at 108 (GPS verified) and your not going to hit the limiter. Once past third gear the rev limiter is not an issue.

I've had my Nomad up to 115 mph (GPS verified)and it was still pulling strong, didn't look to see what the RPMs were, I was too busy hanging on. I was trying to catch up with the group that I had gotten separated from. When I saw how fast I was going, I eased off the throttle down to 90 until I had them in sight.

Same as that with the 115mph,my engine still has more to give, but i could hold the throttle wide open all day long and still not go any faster, the wind resistence just wont allow it.

I don't know about the 1600's but my 1500's ECM stops counting at some rpm (5278 according to the book). That's what I think is the limiting factor on the motor. I could get that in 1-3 and maybe 4th but it sure won't happen in 5th. I tap out at about 97 mph true (GPS)

When i hear that it make's me glad i ripped all the emision's crap off of mine. After fitting a K&N, rejetted the carb and using straight through pipe's,i dont get 40+mpg anymore, but i do get to to grin a fair bit.

Have you moved into the new house, and did you have a beer in that bar yet.

Moved into the house but that bar doesn't seem to be in business any longer. I did find a nice one just down the street a bit though.
