Not sure how big the backrest is on a Vaquero but on my 08 Nomad the Kuryakyn grand tour fit.

Dude, I hear you. I am looking for Luggage options also. Right now my best bet is on a Home Depot tool case The Ridged 22" box at $39.00 USD. Thinking I could run it thru a commercial dish washer a few times and paint it pearl to match the bike. It may look like hell but its water proof and it fits my tool bag to go to my rental houses and do maintenance. I was thinking of drilling the bottom and mounting it. After all It is a KQR back rest. Easy to pull off. And a pretty beefy one at that. Other options I am looking into is a Saddleman Drifter, that another member suggested. He likes his. and it holds a full face helmet, since I like to carry one for bad weather. Not sure how it opens with the height of the backrest. Any bags I look at seriously have many D-Rings, since not much will wrap around this fat backrest. ( looks nice on the bike though). I have also looked at attaching a Luggage rack for a trunk so I could use those bags. Not sure how the weight would affect handling though. I had issues with my 1500 Classic and weight behind the rear axel.

Some basic welding skills and you can roll your own... (providing that covering up the passenger seat is ok). Thats a Bestem top trunk on it. I'm mounting on the saddle bag bolts. (no permanent mods).
