Pissed disappointed with barnett spring!

I have 99', Clutch was slipping, put Barnett spring in this weekend, I didn't know that by putting this spring in I would have to have arms like Popeye, took all the enjoyment of riding, trying to hold this clutch in. Am I missing something or does everyone have this heavy of a handle, this won't stay in very long if I have to deal with this, not only not enjoyable but it feels unsafe.

Too funny lol. I had the same spring put in my bike a year ago. I thought I was crazy when I asked about my clutch being so hard to pull. Everyone kept telling me it's normal, or it's best to have it harder, or the famous "I don't see a difference"... I can't wait to see what the gurus say about this one.

I hope this is not what I call normal, I have rode probably 25 or more bikes over the years, none by the way slipped like this one did or had this heavy of a handle, I couldn't go up a hill with a passenger on with out wondering how much damage was being done to the plates. So I am hoping for some useful thoughts or ideas. My other question will be does the mean streak washer set up have this much handle pull. Because I thinking the clutch master and slave Cylinder wern't designed for this, soon I'll be blowing out seals.

I'm not sure what your plates look like or if you changed them along with the spring. Your clutch may not have been the issue. Mine had a hard pull and late release also. Check out this thread. Maybe putting your OEM spring back in and trying some other things might help. I eventually rebuilt both the MC and slave with inexpensive kits from ebay and love it. My clutch engages about half pull, is not a hard pull and zero slipping. My issue was a thorough cleaning so while I was in there, just rebuilt everything. About $100.00 and half a day. The hardest part is getting the slip ring that holds the piston in the MC in and out; even with slip ring pliers. Hope this helps.

When I replaced my stock spring with a Barnett, I did notice a bit of difference in the effort required to disengage the clutch, but it wasn't too bad.

If you put in the T25 it will pull much harder. I first installed a T19 in my bike, but found it did not give me the result I was looking for. You might consider the T19, it requires less pull than the T 25. The other option is a Meanie spring, and perhaps Judges Washers. My T 25 took some getting used to, but I like how it locks up the clutch and my left hand is definately stronger now. :)

In many past posts, fellas have claimed it took a lot more effort to pull the clutch lever in with the Barnett spring, I used a Meanstreak spring and there was just slightly more effort required over the stock spring.

Before I put the Barnett spring in I have already went through the master and slave cylinders, fresh fluid, ect. The spring was my last choice, whole I had the clutch basket out measured the clutch pack per the service manual. I always try to do the easiest things first. That's what kill me about this is how everything checks out good to specs. But is still slipping, so that's when the spring went in. Now it looks up, no doubt about it! It would be a great drag racing setup. I guess I will try it for a week or so, then try something different.

Did the Barnett spring get softer after some use, and has any just put a new factory spring back in with good results, this bike didn't slip until about 30,000 miles.

I put the Meanstreak spring in with the Judges Washers. I have no slip and notice no difference in the clutch application. Approximately 4500kms rode since the installation.

I have had two Nomad 1600's and wife rides with me nearly every mile. Both bikes needed new springs within first 15k miles. I have the Barnett T-25 spring and have cussed it for 10k miles. Now my left hand is twice the size of my right. ;)

I can relate it's only been two days, but tonight seemed better, maybe it will take time to get use to it. It does make run like a new bike though as far as rolling on the throttle, now I can go as hard as I want with no noticeable slippage.

What oil are you using? Just checking as it seems as if you had a lot of slippage. Maybe the clutch is glazed?

And that is why I repeatedly encourage all to use a 1500 MeanStreak spring with the Judges washers.

But y'all keep doing the Barnett and keep complaining about the pull.

The MS spring will never wear out with the Judges washers, and it will perform every bit as good without the extra effort.
