Riders who have lowered a 1700

I have '13 Nomad right now and I'm pondering upgrading to a Voyager. The one thing I've never liked about the Nomad is it's seat height as I'm short legged and moving to a Voyager won't solve that. I'd like to hear from people who have lowered there 1700s and how much it's affected cornering clearance for you. Every review I've ever read about all the 1700 hundreds complain about corning clearance, though I've never found it an issue on my Nomad. I am worried that it could become an issue if lowered however. So to those who have lowered theirs please give me your thoughts and experiences.

I never had an issue with cornering on my stock Voyager, or my Nomad for that matter. I have a 30" inseam and the height of the Voyager was not an issue for me.
It was the weight of the bike that was the eventual reason for selling it.

I just visited my local dealer over lunch and sat on the Voyager. It felt really top heavy. I may have to keep saving for something like the new Venture or a BMW K1600 Grand America. I've sat on both and both felt really well balanced. Even the Venture considering it ways of 900 lb.

Search for all the threads about Luverne lowering links, and PM all the owners who've installed them. You'll probably find most of them happy to report back, or even in here if you direct them into this thread?

I installed a set of Luverne links in my 09 Voyager. Made a difference of 3/4" I think it was, I'm a short ass with a 29" inseam. I'm not an aggressive driver by any stretch and it never made a difference to me handling wise. I also had the seat shaved which did nothing. Yes the Voyager is heavy but it's so damn comfortable........Mike

The Bride's Vaq was lowered with Luvern link. She does not ride aggressively and never scrapped boards.
I am a bit more courageous than she, so have drug the boards with her scoot. Not a bad thing, since I tend to TRY as rub... :grin:
Overall handling, minimal difference, still solid.

I went with the 180/65r16 same size as a harley rear tire a little wider and lower love the way it rides

I just added the lowering links Friday night and yesterdays ride was the same as before when on the curvy roads I ride. I do ride rather aggressive to say the least. I'm a 30 inch inseam and the bike fit me good until I did the RDL seat. I had them raise me up in the saddle to take some of the sway bottom out of the seat and they went rather long with the support under the ass/leg area. Sets great now but the ground reach was very uncomfortable before. Much better now and didn't seam to effect my clearance in the corners.

I installed the lowering links and have had no problem with cornering. I've scraped a couple of times but nothing to worry about.

I also have the 180/65r16 rear tire and the lowering links and have not had any problem of scraping it on the corners

What kind of modification to the saddle bag mounts is necessary?

On the Voyager, The horizonal bar where the bag bolts to has to be modified. Where the bar turns upward at the front of the bag, it has to be cut loose at the top weld at the top bar and again at the front side of the bolt flange. Remove 7/8 inch from the bar between the bolt flange and the 90 degree turn up. This will move the bar back from the original position and reweld it back into place. The parts come with the instructions and a picture of where to cut and reweld. A guy at our company shop did mine and you can't tell that it wasn't a factory build.
